You Asked.....

Collective Guilt & the Gospel

October 25, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

This is the final Sunday in the You Asked… sermon series. Over the last several weeks we’ve been bringing our questions to the Scriptures and moving together toward answers. We’ve considered topics as diverse as the Problem of Evil, if miracles continue to occur today, and the Christian vision for sexuality. This Sunday we take up a question that has caught our nation’s attention and is at the center of our discussion about politics, race, and morality—how should we think about collective guilt? Are we corporately responsible for the actions of others who have gone before us? Join us on Sunday for worship on the lawn as we take up this question of collective guilt and think about it in light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Josh

The Christian Vision for Sexuality

October 11, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

This Sunday we are talking about the Christian vision for sex. I presume that I now have your attention and that you (like me) are eager to hear from God’s word on this important topic. See you on Sunday at 10AM for worship on the lawn. Pastor Josh

Understanding Scripture’s Warnings & Promises

October 4, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

“The one who endures to the end will be saved.” Jesus used this refrain to describe the Christian life, but we aren’t sure what to do with it. Is it comforting or convicting? Similarly, how should Christians understand the threats, warnings, and even the reassuring promises we find in Scripture? Unfortunately, we who are tender hearted often understand these words as censure while we who are complacent fail to appreciate the challenge Jesus poses.  Join us on Sunday for worship on the lawn and together we’ll seek to grow in our discipleship to Jesus. Our in-person worship service is outdoors on the lawn at Temple Bat Yahm at 10:00AM. Masks are required for everyone over the age of 6. Pastor Josh

Divorce?

September 27, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

A devastating pestilence has swept across our land and in response we must understand it then take precautions to protect ourselves. We do that with Covid, and we should likewise do so with divorce. This Sunday we continue in our series You Asked…..where we take up your questions, one of which was about how Christians should think about divorce. Thankfully Jesus himself was also asked about divorce in Matthew 19. Join us for worship on the lawn and we’ll consider his answer together. Our in-person worship service is outdoors on the lawn at Temple Bat Yahm at 10:00AM. Masks are required for everyone over the age of 6. Pastor Josh

God’s Sovereignty and Human Responsibility

September 20, 2020 • Mr. Derek Rishmawy

How do we balance God's sovereignty and human responsibility in our minds and in daily life? This Sunday we have the privilege of hearing from Derek Rishmawy, our RUF Campus Minister at UCI, on this perplexing question and important topic. To best prepare for Derek's sermon and our time together, spend 10 minutes reading and meditating on Genesis 45:1-11, 50:15-21, and Acts 2:22-24, 4:24-30. I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday! Our in-person worship service is outdoors on the lawn at Temple Bat Yahm at 10:00AM. Masks are required for everyone over the age of 6. Pastor Adam

Do we need to observe the sabbath today?

September 13, 2020 • Rev. Adam Feichtmann

One of the greatest gifts God gives his people is sabbath rest. Sadly, we often don't slow down enough to enjoy this gift and receive its blessings. This Sunday (this Christian Sabbath), in the sermon for our You Asked series, we’ll explore the question: “Do we need to observe the sabbath today?" To best prepare for our time together, spend 10 minutes reading and meditating on the following passages: Genesis 2:1-3, Exodus 20:8-11, Deuteronomy 5:12-15, Matthew 11:28-29, and Hebrews 4:9-11. As you do, reflect on your habits of rest, both rest in time and rest in God. It was a blessing to return to Redeemer last Sunday after my summer sabbatical. I look forward to worshiping with you again this Sunday! Our in-person worship service is outdoors on the lawn at Temple Bat Yahm at 10:00AM. Masks are required for everyone over the age of 6. Pastor Adam

Why do miracles not occur today as they did in the Bible?

September 6, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

You Asked, "Why are miracles not occurring today as they did in the Bible?" It is a good question and one that we all will face when we read about miraculous signs and wonders, then live in a world in which we only see God acting in ordinary and everyday ways. Join us this Sunday at our 10AM service as we take up this question together. Please prepare for the heat this Sunday by wearing your hat or bringing a shade covering. Pastor Josh

Heaven & Hell - Part II

August 30, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

Renowned preacher R.C. Sproul was once asked which doctrine he struggles the most with. His response: “Hell.” Sproul is not alone; many of us struggle to understand what we should believe about Hell.   That’s actually the aim of our series You Asked…, to provide you the opportunity to ask your questions.  This week we consider what the Scriptures teach about Hell. More specifically, we will consider the Day of Judgment and three ways the Scriptures picture Hell.   Join us this Sunday for worship on the lawn as we take up this difficult topic.  Pastor Josh

Heaven & Hell

August 23, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

We don't think well or often enough about heaven or hell. When we do stop to consider our own mortality and the life that will be after death, we have questions. You've asked your questions; join us this Sunday for worship on the lawn and together we'll survey the Scriptures and hope to move toward the answers that God gives in his word. Pastor Josh

Christianity & Exclusivity

August 16, 2020 • Mr. Derek Rishmawy

Christianity makes large claims for Jesus--that he is the way, the truth, and the life and that no one comes to God except by Him. But how can we square such exclusive claims with a loving God and a humble faith? In this week's sermon, we'll address the way the gospel's exclusive claims are actually good news for everybody. Derek Rishmawy

Why Baptize Babies?

August 9, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

This week we continue in our sermon series You Asked and take up our second question: Why Baptize Babies? Like the first topic, The Problem of Evil, this is a frequently asked question. People wonder, Does the Bible teach infant baptism? The baby doesn’t know what is happening… Do you think baptism saves the baby? Join us this Sunday for worship on the lawn and we’ll consider the answer together! Pastor Josh

The Problem of Evil

August 2, 2020 • Rev. Josh Hahne

Why does God allow so much suffering, so much evil, in the world? This question is known as the “Problem of Evil.” It is an ancient question, but whether or not we are familiar with its classic iteration and the numerous ways people have attempted to answer the question, it is a question that confronts each of us. In our human experience we will be forced to reckon with this question. Get a head start this Sunday as we take up the problem of evil in our new series: You Asked. Bring a friend, a beach chair, your flip flops, & sunscreen and join us for the worship of God this Sunday on the Temple lawn. Bring $1 to church this Sunday, you won't regret it... Pastor Josh
