Why does God allow so much suffering, so much evil, in the world? This question is known as the “Problem of Evil.” It is an ancient question, but whether or not we are familiar with its classic iteration and the numerous ways people have attempted to answer the question, it is a question that confronts each of us. In our human experience we will be forced to reckon with this question. Get a head start this Sunday as we take up the problem of evil in our new series: You Asked.

This is the final Sunday in the You Asked… sermon series. Over the last several weeks we’ve been bringing our questions to the Scriptures and moving together toward answers. We’ve considered topics as diverse as the Problem of Evil, if miracles continue to occur today, and the Christian vision for sexuality. This Sunday we take up a question that has caught our nation’s attention and is at the center of our discussion about politics, race, and morality—how should we think about collective guilt? Are we corporately responsible for the actions of others who have gone before us? Understanding Scripture’s Warnings & Promises

“The one who endures to the end will be saved.” Jesus used this refrain to describe the Christian life, but we aren’t sure what to do with it. Is it comforting or convicting? Similarly, how should Christians understand the threats, warnings, and even the reassuring promises we find in Scripture? Unfortunately, we who are tender hearted often understand these words as censure while we who are complacent fail to appreciate the challenge Jesus poses. Join us on Sunday for worship on the lawn and together we’ll seek to grow in our discipleship to Jesus. Our in-person worship service is outdoors on the lawn at Temple Bat Yahm at 10:00AM.
