In Ruth 4, Boaz goes to the town gate to publicly redeem Ruth. Because Boaz redeemed Ruth, she ended up with a life far beyond what she could imagine – even becoming the great grandmother of King David and landing in the lineage of Jesus Christ! As we see the sacrifices Boaz made for Ruth and his public pursuit of her, we are reminded of how Christ has redeemed us! The book of Ruth is a story of God's providence in every day life. The story, set against the backdrop of the period of the Judges, opens with a family leaving the land of Israel behind during a famine to sojourn in Moab. But would running from the land of God fix their problems? As it turns out, it didn't fix anything. From the story of Elimelech, Naomi, and their two sons, Pastor David reminds us where to turn in times of trouble and encourages us to come back to the land of the Lord.
