Galatians Series 2022

The Gospel of Christ

April 24, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Galatians 1:1–10

“Paul is breathing fire. His zeal is so fervent that he almost begins to curse the angels themselves.” These are the words Martin Luther used to describe the beginning of Paul’s letter to the churches of Galatia. His letter addresses gospel issues, truths that are vital importance for the church in every place and time. Join us this Sunday for our new sermon series in Galatians. Pastor Josh

Easter 2022 - Raised for our Justification

April 17, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Matthew 28:1–10, Romans 4:23–25

You’ve heard the accounts of what happened on the first Easter, but do you know why Jesus was raised from the dead? In Romans chapter four the Apostle Paul makes a thought-provoking statement: “[Jesus] was raised for our justification.” On Sunday we’ll consider these words together and hope to grow in our appreciation of the significance of the resurrection for the people of God. Pastor Josh

Not from Man, but through Jesus Christ

May 1, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Acts 8:1–3, Acts 9:1–19, Galatians 1:11–24, Galatians 2:1–14

This week we’ll be considering Paul’s conversion experience in which the risen Christ appeared to him and commissioned him to bring the gospel to the Gentiles. This event, along with the church planting ministry and subsequent letters to these churches (which make up approximately 30% of the New Testament), dramatically changed history. No wonder the Apostle Paul appealed to his unique calling when his credentials were attacked by the false teachers in Galatia. Join us this Lord’s Day and we’ll continue in our studies of Galatians! Pastor Josh

Live In Step With The Gospel

May 8, 2022 • Rev. Adam Feichtmann • Acts 11:1–18, Galatians 2:11–14

Have you ever succumbed to peer pressure? Are you a people-pleaser and find it hard to say, “No”? Are you codependent with someone? Do you control your life in such a way so people will not think bad of you? We all struggle with the problem of fearing others. We are all concerned with what others think about us and often we let what other people think dictate our actions. We will even behave contrary to our professed beliefs and act like hypocrites because of our fear of others. This Sunday we will be looking at Galatians 2:11-14. It is an awkward passage. Paul opposes Peter to his face over Peter's fear of others and hypocritical actions. However, Paul doesn't confront Peter because he failed morally. Paul considers Peter's actions a gospel issue. Join me this Sunday as we consider how to live in step with the truth of the gospel against the threat of fearing others. I look forward to worshiping with you! Pastor Adam

Paul’s Thesis - Justified through Faith in Jesus Christ

May 15, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Galatians 2:15–21

This Sunday we take up the magisterial doctrine of justification. It was the thesis of Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia and continues to address a question in the heart of every human—how can sinful people be right before God? Invite a friend, join us for worship, and together we’ll consider God’s grace. Pastor Josh

The Torah leads us to Faith in Christ

May 22, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Galatians 3

In Galatians 3, Paul puts forward several arguments to advance the thesis of his letter—a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ. These arguments have helped generations of Christians understand Abraham’s faith, the way that Christ took the curse of the law on the cross, God’s intention for the Torah, and who it is that are the true sons of God. Join us this Lord’s Day and we’ll continue in our study of Galatians. Pastor Josh

Cursed is Everyone who is Hanged on a Tree

May 29, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Deuteronomy 21:22–23, Galatians 3:10–14

In his letter to the churches of Galatia, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree…’” This single verse of Scripture will be our focus on Sunday. I hope that as we understand it, we will be in a better position to understand the cross. See you on the Lord’s Day! Pastor Josh

Forget Not That You Are Sons

June 5, 2022 • Rev. Derek Rishmawy • Galatians 4

This Sunday Pastor Derek Rishmawy will lead us as we continue our study of Galatians. In the fourth chapter, the Apostle Paul uses the doctrine of adoption to support his thesis--we are justified through faith in Jesus Christ not by the works of Torah, such as circumcision. Paul writes, "When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons." Join us this Sunday and we'll consider this beautiful doctrine together. Pastor Josh

Faith Working Through love

June 12, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Galatians 5:1–15

This Sunday we continue our series in Galatians by considering the fifth chapter of Paul’s letter. It is a section where the Apostle is exasperated by the Judaizers’ false teaching. To those who distort the gospel, Paul makes some of his most strident remarks. He also provides the church with a pastoral maxim, which is as useful for the Christian life today as it was then. We’ll hope to see you on the Lord’s Day for worship! Pastor Josh

The Fruit of the Spirit

June 19, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Galatians 5:16–26

It’s not uncommon to hear people say, “I’m a spiritual person, just not religious.” But what does it mean to be a spiritual person? In the fifth chapter of Paul’s letter to the churches of Galatia, he describes the Christian life as a Spiritual life, one in which we are led by the Spirit, and, famously, evidence the fruit of the Spirit. This Sunday we’ll seek to understand what Paul taught and hope to leave with a clear understanding of how we can grow into his vision for the Christian life. See you on Sunday, Pastor Josh

A Cross-Shaped Community

June 26, 2022 • Rev. Josh Hahne • Galatians 6

How should the cross shape our community at Redeemer? What should the church do, specifically, to embody the ethos of Christ? This is the subject of Paul's final exhortation to the churches of Galatia, which we will consider this Sunday. See you on Sunday! Pastor Josh
