There is no denying that we are living in a very pivotal time in history where the church's response is so important, and what we often find, that when we should be focused on pivotal issues that impact the Kingdom, we are so easily divided upon secondary issues that really do not have the value that we sometimes place upon them.

This week, Senior Pastor Scott Hobbs brought us the word as we continue in Romans. Here, we find that Paul gives us some very practical tips in Romans 14 on how the church should be responding to each other on secondary issues.

This week, as we are finishing up our sermon series on the book of Romans, we see the perfect completion of Paul's "Good News of the Gospel" that brings full circle how we saw the book of Romans first introduced. As we have journeyed through this book, we first read of the power of God, and then, Paul goes through and outlines the following throughout the book: the wrath of God, the grace of God, then plan of God, and the will of God. Here, we are in the last chapter of Romans 16, where we are again reminded that above all, we are put our trust in the power of God. We are challenged to be connected to the family of God, surrounding ourselves with those who can keep us accountable, and we are to feed our lives with life-giving relationships, always pointing people to Christ. Most importantly, we are to radically trust God to finish what He's done. Your hope is not in your efforts or having it all figured out or doing it in your own strength. Your hope is to radically trust in God and in Him alone.

Throughout the Bible, we find scriptures that bring encouragement to our hearts, reminds us of the hope that we have, and also grounds us despite shifting cultures. These scriptures then can become an important relational connecting point when we share with others, which causes us to reflect: in our relationships, how is God using us to build others up? Are we working hard to build our kingdom? Are we building God's kingdom or are we doing a little bit of both? How grounded are we in the scriptures that we are able to be that solid rock in a world of shifting sand? In this sermon, Pastor Katherine Hopkins took us to Romans 15, where we find Paul encouraging the church to live in harmony with others. We can be in a impossible situation, yet we can find hope and a unifying strength that brings joy above all! As Christians, we can stand together with one voice and one heart, focused on the Word of God to speak life to a hurting world.

What should be our response? This week Senior Pastor Scott Hobbs brought us to Romans 13, starting at vs. 8, where we see exactly how God feels about debt. You might be slightly surprised by what you find. We encourage you to look back through this chapter and read all that the scripture says about authority and debt, and how in every situation, we are called to respond in love.
