Exodus 1

Exodus Chapter 1 tells of God’s faithfulness to His pledge of having the Israelites prosper in Egypt despite the resistance they encounter from Pharaoh.

The primary focus of Exodus Chapter 2 is centered around the birth of Moses and much of his life until he reaches the point of being middle-aged.

Exodus 3

In Exodus Chapter 3, we learn about an important episode in the life of Moses. While he was on a mountain, God spoke to him through a burning bush. However, even though the bush was on fire, it was not consumed. God told Moses to remove his shoes as he was standing on holy land. Moses was afraid to look at the Lord and he hid his face in his hands.

Moses spoke with God in Chapter 3, and his conversation with the Lord continues in Exodus Chapter 4.

Exodus Chapter 5 is about Moses and Aaron approaching Pharaoh and asking him to allow the Israelites to go into the wilderness to worship God.

In Exodus Chapter 6, the Lord assured Moses that He would deliver the Israelites from Egypt and through His mighty hand, Pharaoh himself would drive them out of the land.

In Exodus Chapter 7, we read about what God did to Pharaoh and the Egyptians in order to save the people of Israel. He multiplied His signs, judgments, and wonders so He could demonstrate His will and power.

Exodus Chapter 8 tells of more judgments that God sent on Pharaoh and the land of Egypt. In the previous chapter, He showed Pharaoh His power by turning a rod into a serpent and by turning the water throughout the land into blood. But Pharaoh still did not relent.

Exodus Chapter 9 is a continuation of the previous two chapters in which God sent judgments on Pharaoh and Egypt for holding the Hebrews captive.

Several chapters in Exodus, including Exodus Chapter 10, outline the various judgments that the Lord sent on the land of Egypt in an attempt to make Pharaoh free the Hebrew slaves. In Exodus Chapter 10, God sent two more judgments – the locusts and the darkness.

Exodus Chapter 11 is mainly about the last and most devastating plague that God delivered to Egypt, which was the plague on the firstborn. This was the judgment that God said would cause Pharaoh to let the Hebrew slaves go.

Exodus Chapter 12 is the Bible’s first mention of the ritual of Passover. In Israel, Passover became a yearly festival to celebrate the events described in this chapter. Later chapters of Exodus explain in greater detail how Passover should be performed.

Exodus Chapter 13 tells the story of Moses leading the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt.

Exodus Chapter 14 begins with the Lord telling Moses to instruct the Israelites to camp between Migdol and the sea at a place called Pi Hahiroth. God told them that Pharaoh and his men will think that the people of Israel are lost and He would once again harden his heart.

Exodus 15

Exodus Chapter 15 tells of the children of Israel singing praises to the Lord following their safe crossing of the Red Sea. The Israelites sang of triumph and glory as they continued marching toward Canaan.
