38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit...” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 2:38,41

When the crowd asked Peter what they should do in response to his sermon, he gave them a three-fold answer: repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Thousands responded and were added to the fellowship of believers. The biblical pattern is that everyone who is baptized is also added. Every baptized disciple is expected to become an active member of the local fellowship.

水の洗礼WATER BAPTISM
聖書には、洗礼を理解するのに助けとなるいくつかのたとえが描かれています。各々、古いいのちが捨てられ、新しいいのちが現れることを示しています。水の洗礼によって、キリストが十字架上で私たちのためにしてくださったことを公に認め、罪の古いいのちを捨て、キリストに従う新しいいのちが始まるのです。
The Bible presents several illustrations to help us understand water baptism. Each of these pictures of water baptism shows the old life being put away and the new life emerging. In water baptism, we publicly identify with what Christ did for us on the cross, put away the old life of sin, and begin a new life of obedience to Christ.

埋葬と復活Burial and Resurrection
パウロは、クリスチャンの洗礼を埋葬にたとえています。まず死んでいなければ埋葬できません。同じように、洗礼の必要条件は罪に対する死です。洗礼によって埋葬され、その後よみがえって新しい人生を歩むのです。
Paul compares Christian baptism to a burial. In order to be buried, a person must first die. In the same way, the prerequisite for baptism is death to sin. After we are buried in baptism, then we are raised to live a new life.

1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:1-4

を渡るCrossing the Red Sea

In the same way the Israelites were in slavery to the Egyptians, we were all slaves of sin. The Israelites were freed from their bondage by passing through the Red Sea. Baptism pictures the freedom from sin that Jesus purchased for us on the cross.

洪水The Flood
ペテロは、私たちの救いは、水、または汚れを取り除くことによって与えられるのではなく、キリストの死と復活により与えられるものだと教えています。
Peter teaches that it is not the water or the “removal of dirt” that saved us, but the death and resurrection of Christ.

20 ...God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also – not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ... 1 Peter 3:20-21

聖霊のバプテスマTHE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
聖霊の力と臨在から離れてクリスチャン人生を歩むことは不可能です。イエスは、私たちをすべての真理に導き入れるために聖霊を与える、と約束されました。
It is impossible to live the Christian life apart from the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come to lead us into all truth.

7しかし、わたしは真実を言います。わたしが去って行くことは、あなたがたにとって益なのです。それは、もしわたしが去って行かなければ、助け主があなたがたのところに来ないからです。しかし、もし行けば、わたしは助け主をあなたがたのところに遣わします。13 しかし、その方、すなわち真理の御霊が来ると、あなたがたをすべての真理に導き入れます。御霊は自分から語るのではなく、聞くままを話し、また、やがて起ころうとしていることをあなたがたに示すからです。ヨハネ16:7,13

バプテスマを授けられるイエスJesus the Baptizer

John the Baptist taught that water baptism was an act of repentance, and pointed out that Jesus would baptize His disciples with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit empowers us to be effective witnesses. A witness is one who not only tells the truth, but also lives the truth.

聖霊のバプテスマは、ペンテコステ(聖霊降臨)の日にそこにいた人々だけではなく、すべての信者に約束された賜物であると、ペテロは教えました。
Peter taught that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is a gift promised for every believer, not just for those present during Pentecost.

James tells us that we do not have because we do not ask. In order to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we must ask – and we must ask in faith.

手を置いて祈るThe Laying on of Hands
新約聖書に出てくる弟子の多くは、手を置いてもらうことによって聖霊のバプテスマを受けました。
Many disciples in the New Testament received the baptism of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands.

ふたりが彼らの上に手を置くと、彼らは聖霊を受けた。使徒8:17
Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:17

霊の賜物Spiritual Gifts
聖霊のバプテスマを受けると、霊の賜物の現れが伴います。聖霊のバプテスマに関する聖書の記述によると、最もよく現れる霊の賜物は異言の賜物です。
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is accompanied by the manifestation of the spiritual gifts. In the biblical accounts of the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the most common spiritual gift manifested is the gift of tongues.

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:4

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. Acts 19:6

異言と預言の賜物The Gift of Tongues and Prophesy
異言や預言は、徳を高めたり、力づけるためのものです。異言は個人を、預言は教会を力づけます。
Tongues and prophecy are both designed for edification or for strengthening. Tongues strengthens the individual and prophesy strengthens the church.

1愛を追い求めなさい。また、御霊の賜物、特に預言することを熱心に求めなさい。...3ところが預言する者は、徳を高め、勧めをなし、慰めを与えるために、人に向かって話します。1コリント14:1, 3
1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy…. 3 But those who prophesy speak to people for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. 1 Corinthians 14:1,3

4異言を話す者は自分の徳を高めますが、預言する者は教会の徳を高めます。5 私はあなたがたがみな異言を話すことを望んでいますが、それよりも、あなたがたが預言することを望みます。もし異言を話す者がその解き明かしをして教会の徳を高めるのでないなら、異言を語る者よりも、預言する者のほうがまさっています。1コリント14:4,5
4 Those who speak in a tongue edify themselves, but those who prophesy edify the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. "はじめに INTRODUCTION

1974年から1979年にかけて、ロンという長老派の牧師が、私の故郷であるミシシッピー州のジャクソンという町の高校を何度も訪れ、大胆に福音を語りました。聞いてくれる人なら誰にでも、また聞いてくれないような人にも語りました。彼を通して、数えきれないほどの十代の若者が初めて神の救いの計画を耳にし、理解しました。何百人もの人が応答し、その中でたくさんの人が教会開拓者、若者への伝道者、牧師、宣教師としてフルタイムで神に仕える者となりました。 From 1974-1979, a young upstart Presbyterian youth pastor named Ron invaded local high schools in my hometown of Jackson, Mississippi boldly sharing the gospel one-on-one with anyone who would listen, and with some who wouldn’t. Over the years, countless teenagers heard and understood God’s plan of salvation for the first time. Hundreds responded. However, my first response to Ron and his gospel was not to repent, but to run. I ran from Ron, from his disciples, and from God. I ran for about six months, avoiding Ron the best I could. But it was a difficult task, because he was around the school a lot, always helping various students. Thankfully, he and his band of disciples continued inviting me to their bible studies and church events. I repented and put my faith in Christ alone. Fortunately, it didn’t end there. Ron wasn’t content just to carve a notch in his well-worn Bible to represent yet another soul saved. Since he was not out to save souls, but to train strong, healthy Christians, his work with me was just beginning. 救い SALVATION

新しいスタートA New Start だれでもキリストのうちにあるなら、その人は新しく造られた者です。古いものは過ぎ去って、見よ、すべてが新しくなりました。2コリント5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 新しくされる。再出発。もう一度やり直せたら、と思っている人には、嬉しい言葉でしょう。ですが、なぜ自分がやり直さなければならないのか、きちんと理解する必要があります。なぜ私たちは「新しく造られた者」にならなければならないのでしょうか。なぜ救いが必要なのでしょうか。 A new creation. A fresh start. For all of us who have ever wished we could start over, this is good news. However before we can really appreciate this good news, we need to understand exactly why we need to start over. Why do we need to become a “new creation”? Why do we need salvation? 分離Separation 神と人間の間には、はかりしれないほどの隔たりがあります。神と人間の間の永遠の隔たりの原因は罪です。 There is an immeasurable gap separating God and man. The cause of this eternal separation between God and man is sin. 神がすごく遠い存在に感じたことはありませんか。誰しもそう思ったことがあるでしょう。神が遠く感じられることはよくあることです。そのような人の多くは、もっと熱心に黙想すれば、その宗教のことをもっとよく学べば、あるいは、その宗教の建物に足を踏み入れれば、もっと近くに神が感じられるかもしれない、と思いがちです。けれども、神から離れているのは、物理的な問題でも、知的な問題でもないので、黙想も知識もこの場合役に立ちません。では、その原因は何でしょう。 Have you ever felt distant from God? We all have. Feeling far from God is very common. Many who sense this vast separation suppose that if they meditate harder, learn more about their religion, or just step into a religious sanctuary, they would be closer to God. But since our separation from God is not physical or intellectual, neither meditation nor knowledge can bring us any closer to God. What causes the separation between God and man? 1見よ。主の御手が短くて救えないのではない。その耳が遠くて、聞こえないのではない。2 あなたがたの咎が、あなたがたと、あなたがたの神との仕切りとなり、あなたがたの罪が御顔を隠させ、聞いてくださらないようにしたのだ。イザヤ59:1, 2 1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Isaiah 59:1, 2 神と人間の間の隔たりは道徳的なものです。神は聖なる方ですが、人間はそうではありません。神は良い方ですが、人間は違います。神は正しいですが、人間は正しくありません。すべての人が罪を犯しました。ですから、すべての人が永遠に神から離れて、永遠の死という罪の結果に苦しむのです。 The separation between God and man is a moral separation. God is holy; man is not. God is good; man is not. God is just; man is not. All men have sinned; therefore, all are eternally separated from God. Romans 6:23 解決策Solution 神の捧げ物と身代わりGod’s Sacrifice and Substitution 神はその正義により、人間の罪をつぐなう捧げ物を求めておられます。イエス・キリストがその捧げ物となり、十字架において私たちの罪の代価を払ってくださったのです。 The justice of God demands a sacrifice for man’s sin. Jesus Christ became that sacrifice and paid the penalty for our sin at the cross. 神はきよく、道徳的に正しく、公正な方なので、罪を見逃すことはされません。でも同時に、愛にあふれ、慈悲深い方ですから、すべての人が永遠にご自分から離れていることは我慢ならないのです。この問題に対して神のくださった解決方法は、神のひとり子であるイエスを、私たちの罪のいけにえとして与えることでした。 Since God is holy, righteous, and just, He could not allow sin to go unpunished. Since He is loving and compassionate, he did not want all of mankind to be eternally separated from Him. But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Hebrews 9:26-28 十字架で何が起こったのでしょう。十字架の死によって、イエスは私たちの身代わりとなり、私たちが受けるべきだった罰を受けてくださいました。神はご自分の正しさを、私たちの罪と交換してくださったのです。私たちの呪いを取り去り、祝福をくださったのです。イエスは罪の全くない人生をおくった方なので、人間の罪の報いを代わりに受け、神と人間の間の溝を橋渡しすることのできる唯一相応しい方でした。 What exactly happened on the cross? Through His death on the cross, Jesus took our place and our punishment. He exchanged His righteousness for our sin. He took our curse and gave us His blessings. The penalty for sin is eternal separation from God in hell. God is just and must punish sin. He is also loving and does not want us to go to hell forever. Therefore, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for sin by dying on the cross. Because of His sinless life, death could not hold Jesus. He was raised from the dead on the third day. In Christ, we experience forgiveness for our sins and eternal life. It is based on what Jesus did for us on the cross. It has nothing to do with what we do for Him. We cannot save ourselves or earn God’s approval through the good works we do.
