1974年から1979年にかけて、ロンという長老派の牧師が、私の故郷であるミシシッピー州のジャクソンという町の高校を何度も訪れ、大胆に福音を語りました。聞いてくれる人なら誰にでも、また聞いてくれないような人にも語りました。彼を通して、数えきれないほどの十代の若者が初めて神の救いの計画を耳にし、理解しました。何百人もの人が応答し、その中でたくさんの人が教会開拓者、若者への伝 道者、牧師、宣教師としてフルタイムで神に仕える者となりました。
From 1974-1979, a young upstart Presbyterian youth pastor named Ron invaded local high schools in my hometown of Jackson, Mississippi boldly sharing the gospel one-on-one with anyone who would listen, and with some who wouldn’t. Over the years, countless teenagers heard and understood God’s plan of salvation for the first time. Hundreds responded. Many went on to serve the Lord in full-time ministry as church planters, youth ministers, pastors, and missionaries.

私も70年代半ばにロンを通して福音を初めて聞いた者の一人です。しかし、私の最初の反応は悔い改めではなく、逃避でした。ロンやロン の仲間、そして神から逃げたのです。約6ヶ月間、できるだけロンを避 けました。ですが、それにも限界がありました。というのも、ロンと彼 の仲間は学校のいたる所でいつも学生達を助けていたからです。そして、あきらめることなく私を聖書の学びや教会の行事に誘い続けてくれました。彼らは忍耐強く愛を示し、私を気にかけてくれたのです。
I’m one of those who heard the gospel for the first time through Ron back in the mid-seventies. However, my first response to Ron and his gospel was not to repent, but to run. I ran from Ron, from his disciples, and from God. I ran for about six months, avoiding Ron the best I could. But it was a difficult task, because he was around the school a lot, always helping various students. Thankfully, he and his band of disciples continued inviting me to their bible studies and church events. Their love and concern for me was persistent and consistent.

ついに私は1975年11月に福音の招きに応えました。悔い改め、キリ ストだけに信仰を置くことを決めたのです。幸いなことに、そこで話 は終わりませんでした。ロンは「魂が救われた」と、自分の使い古さ れた聖書に印をつけるだけでは満足しませんでした。彼は魂を救う ことではなく、強く健全なクリスチャンを育てることを目的としてい たので、私に対する働きかけは始まりに過ぎなかったのです。私は 彼の「アクショングループ」の一つに加えられ、そこで他の7人と毎週 集まり、神との歩みを学びました。
Finally, in November of 1975, I responded to the gospel. I repented and put my faith in Christ alone. Fortunately, it didn’t end there. Ron wasn’t content just to carve a notch in his well-worn Bible to represent yet another soul saved. Since he was not out to save souls, but to train strong, healthy Christians, his work with me was just beginning. He added me to one of his famous “action groups” where about eight of us met together weekly and learned to walk with God.

I believe in one-to-one evangelism, one-to-one follow-up, and one-to-one discipleship. Here’s why. Ron shared the gospel with me. I didn’t respond. I ran. Ron ran after me. For six months he kept reaching out to me, befriending me and praying for me. He didn’t give up easily. That’s one-to-one follow-up.

私が福音の招きに応えると、ロンはスモール・グループの中で私をトレーニングし始めました。聖書をどのように学び、それをどのように生活に生かしていくか教えてくれました。また、どのように祈り、自分の信仰について他の人に話し、キリストに従う人を育てるか教えてくれました。これが一対一の聖書に基づくトレーニングなのです。
After I responded to the gospel, Ron began to disciple me in a small group. He taught me how to study and live the Bible. He taught me how to pray. He taught me how to share my faith and how to make disciples. That’s one-to-one discipleship.

Personal follow-up and discipleship. That’s the Great Commission. That’s what this little book is all about.

ONE 2 ONE was written as a simple tool to aid in personal follow-up and discipleship. It’s a guide. It cannot make a disciple, but it can help you make one. Most importantly, it helps a new disciple get the right start.
