The dictionary defines refuge as a shelter or protection from danger or distress. Whenever we feel threatened, we look for refuge. Sometimes it's a person, or maybe a government official or even a structure. As believers, our primary shelter is Christ; he can use those others to protect us, but he is our http://refuge.the Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. (Ps 9:9) - Pastor Ken
It's been said, "There are no half-hearted champions." Michael Jordan said, "I have always believed, if you put in the work, the results will come." Are you putting in the effort to know Christ? When it comes to knowing Christ, no half-hearted effort will do. He warns us, "So, because you are lukewarm (half-hearted), and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth." (Revelation 3:16) My prayer for you is that you're hot with the love for Christ! - Pastor Ken

History is filled with surprise attacks such as Pearl Harbor and the Six-Day War. Many Christians act as though the spiritual war we are engaged in is some kind of surprise attack. Peter said, "Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you." (1 Peter 4:12). God equips us to stand in all the battles we encounter - so, stand! (See Ephesians 6:10-18) Stand in Christ and experience the victory in his name. - Pastor Ken

I have yet to meet someone who doesn't prefer the truth over lies. It's been said, "The truth exists, lies have to be invented." Since Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, let's be people of the truth. We don't need to swear on a "stack of Bibles" do we? Let's let our "yes" be "yes" and our "no" be "no." Elvis Pressley said, "Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away." The best thing about telling the truth is you don't have to have a good memory , especially as we get older and memories fade." - Pastor Ken

Think back over your life; what has God done for you? What blessings have you received over your life? How many of your sins has he forgiven? Given all that he has done for us, how do we respond? The Psalmist answered that for us. He said, "What shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord." (Psalm 116:12-13). - Pastor Ken

Why do you obey God? Is it out of fear of wanting to avoid punishment? That can be a good motivation to obey, to avoid the necessary consequences of sin (See Galatians 6:7-8). However, there is a deeper and better motivation, because it pleases God. I want to hear those words, βThis is my son, who I love!β I want to hear, βWell done good and faithful servant.β So, letβs seek to obey not so much to avoid pain, but to give our Father pleasure, and to receive his approval.
Pray for Godβs grace so you can embrace his commands and obey his words. -

There is continuity in God's program that we get to participate in as his workman. Charles Wesley said, "God buries his workmen, but carries on his work." All the great leaders of faith eventually get replaced: Joshua replaced Moses, Solomon replaced David, and even Paul replaced Stephen so to speak. Our job - help the next generation know Christ so they can make him known to the generation that will follow them. - Pastor Ken

The gospel of Christ is so wonderfully simple and beautiful, we can be tempted to add things to it to try and make it better. We try to add behavior codes as a way to be accepted with God or even discount the necessity to live for Christ. It doesn't matter how we live. Both extremes are dangerous - let's stick to Christ and receive from him all we need. He said, "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for . . . my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 12:28-30 - Pastor Ken

Greyhound bus lines provide a free ticket to any runaway who wants to return home. Likewise, God provides a free ticket through the gospel for anyone who wants to return home to him. Jesus said, "Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.β (Luke 15: 10) Pastor Ken

In the church, the body of Christ, there is something for each of us to do. God has created you with abilities and gifts that he wants to use within our church. The question is: are you a contributor or a consumer? Remember, you can't out give God - if you participate you will be blessed. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

There are times when we all feel as though we got the short end of the stick when it comes to blessings. We compare our lives with others and they seem to have so much more than us. Yet, that's a trap for we are all blessed. Paul said, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 1:3) So, instead of feeling short changed, thank God for all his blessings and trust him to meet all your needs. - Pastor Ken

God can speak to us through the normal and the extraordinary. He normally speaks to us through his written word - you want to hear his voice, read the Bible! Another normative way is through godly counsel from our leaders or other mature Christians. Are you listening? Sometimes, he might use an extraordinary method to speak to us such as an unusual circumstance or difficulty. Will you listen to him? - Pastor Ken

We are all going to face unanticipated situations that will challenge us. Even though we may not have seen them coming, God knew all along. When you walk with God, he will ensure that you get to the desired destination. Isaiah said, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." Have you ever felt as though you were "snakebit?" Snakebit is someone who has been characterized by bad luck or subject to a series of misfortunes. That can be due to circumstances out of our control but probably more often than not, we are snakebit because we did something to bring it on. Instead of complaining, let's look to Christ for his forgiveness and direction to help us turn it around. (John 3:14-15) - Pastor Ken

As each day passes, I am more keenly aware of how brief life is and how transitory things are in this world. We are only here for a short time and all our possessions will one day belong to someone else. Peter said, "All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever." (1 Peter 1:24-25) So, what are you investing in - something temporary or something eternal? - Pastor Ken
