Why do you obey God? Is it out of fear of wanting to avoid punishment? That can be a good motivation to obey, to avoid the necessary consequences of sin (See Galatians 6:7-8). However, there is a deeper and better motivation, because it pleases God. I want to hear those words, “This is my son, who I love!” I want to hear, “Well done good and faithful servant.” So, let’s seek to obey not so much to avoid pain, but to give our Father pleasure, and to receive his approval.
