The prominence of a name has long been immortalized in prose, poetry, and religious ceremony. Almost everyone has one or is called by one. But is a name simply an outward identification mark or does it reveal something inward about the person named?
Biblically, names carry meaning because they describe the qualities and characteristics of the person who bears the name. But what about the names of God? What do they reveal about His nature, character, attributes, and attitudes—indeed—His very being? To begin with, He is JEHOVAH YAWEH—the eternal Creator and Great I AM as well as JEHOVAH ADONAI—the sovereign Lord, Master, Ruler, and Owner of all.
In this sermon series, Pastor Ronald H. Gann dissects the more popular names of God in the Old Testament, and shows how God's nature and attributes are defined by the titles ascribed to Him.
