YeHoVaH’s Laws are Commandments of compassion that addressed various aspects and the conduct of community life for the nation maintaining justice, assuring that lawbreakers were punished and that those obedient to His Law prospered. In this portion of Deuteronomy, YeHoVaH gives Instructions for atoning for unsolved murder and marrying foreign women captured in war. Further Instructions are given for dealing with the firstborn sons of a polygamous marriage and the stubborn and rebellious son who disobeys his parents. The Chapter concludes with rules pertaining to death by hanging.

Rules for War

The meticulous wartime details communicated in YeHoVaH’s Laws, given by Him to Moses for the Israelites, covered various aspects and conduct of community life for the nation. Attitudes, pertaining to maintaining peace, safety, the people’s ability to enjoy the bounties of YeHoVaH’s deliverance from Egypt, and their prosperity in the Promised Land is at the forefront of this extraordinary Chapter. In Israel’s preparation for going to war against their enemies, certain Instructions of exclusions were given to certain individuals in certain categories based on YeHoVaH’s Promises.

Asylum Cities and Justice

YeHoVaH established the holy nation of Israel to be a just society with righteous decrees and Laws that set them apart from all other nations. To maintain Israel as a just society, enforcing the Laws was paramount to assure that those who violated the Law were punished accordingly and those who obeyed the Law were protected. Embedded in the Law of YeHoVaH were provisions for accidental crimes or unintentional violations and how to handle those matters justly. This passage deals with such a matter.

The Day of Thanksgiving and the Bible

For many Americans, Thanksgiving is a special beloved holiday. Both the religious communities and non-religious communities celebrate the day of Thanksgiving which generates debate over its religious associations. However, for others, the celebration is deeply controversial. Thanksgiving has a contentious history that goes far beyond when the first feast was held. Like Columbus Day, the holiday is viewed by many to be a celebration of the conquest of Native Americans by colonists. Thanksgiving is considered by some to be a national day of mourning. Biblically, there are Holy Days that are to be observed which were given to us by YeHoVaH through Moses. Messiah’s Conception

In our last study on Messiah’s Bloodline, Arthur followed the two bloodlines revealed in Matthew and Luke to uncover both Joseph’s lineage and the lineage of Mary through King David’s sons Solomon and Nathan. This week, Arthur examines the message given to Joseph in a dream asking him to do something no man in recorded Biblical history has ever done. Joseph is to take for a wife a woman who is impregnated by the Holy Spirit.

YeHoVaH set Israel apart from all the nations in the earth to be unto Him a Kingdom of Priests, and an Holy Nation. His plan for Israel as a Nation and Kingdom of Priests was first revealed to Abraham, the first to be called a Hebrew and a Prophet. As a set apart Holy Nation, birthed during Passover, the first to be set apart, among the set apart, was the firstborn male. The institution of the Priests to minister unto YeHoVaH instead of the firstborn and the role of the Prophet to speak for YeHoVaH have everlasting significance in millennia.

Obey God's Law and Live Long

No one is above the Law of YeHoVaH. From the king who was commanded to govern according to the Law to the lowest servant, all men in YeHoVaH's Kingdom are subject to the same Law. In this passage of Deuteronomy, YeHoVaH gives Instructions to Moses to give to the Children of Israel about presenting proper sacrifices unto Him, what to do to the person who worshipped idols, and the process of administering the death penalty for the perpetrators. Obeying the Law of YeHoVaH not only protected the people from YeHoVaH's vengeance but it also insured the promise of a long life for generations to come.

How to Worship God

How to worship YeHoVaH the way He wants to be worshipped is outlined in His Instructions to Moses and revealed in the Torah. YeHoVaH also gave Instructions on how not to worship Him. Within the context of the Bible, there are examples of true worship, vain worship, and idol worship. The Feasts of YeHoVaH first mentioned in Exodus, commanded in Leviticus, observed in Numbers, and instructed in this Chapter of Deuteronomy focuses on three specific Feasts and where, when, and how the worship of YeHoVaH was to take place.

Debt Cancellation, Slavery & Sacrifice

Embedded in YeHoVaH’s Law were Commandments of compassion for the poor, for slaves, and requirements of acceptable and unacceptable sacrifices. Although YeHoVaH’s economic provisions and resources provided each Israelite family opportunities to prosper when He brought them out of Egypt, some families fell into poverty for unknown reasons. Others sold themselves as slaves to provide for themselves. In this portion of Deuteronomy, YeHoVaH gave Moses Instructions for how the Israelites were to properly respond to the various situations aforementioned.

The concept of brotherhood in Torah encompasses a spectrum of kinship including all those that serve YeHoVaH. The Torah underscores the responsibility one has to their brother, emphasizing the importance of protection, care, and preservation as outlined in the concept of "shamar." However, man can only watch, and his protection is limited. YeHoVaH is our Keeper and watches over us. Yeshua further elucidated the significance of righteousness by highlighting how we treat our brothers, emphasizing a duty to guard, attend to, and preserve the well-being of one another. Who is my Brother? “ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” (Matthew 12:50)
