How to worship YeHoVaH the way He wants to be worshipped is outlined in His Instructions to Moses and revealed in the Torah. YeHoVaH also gave Instructions on how not to worship Him. Within the context of the Bible, there are examples of true worship, vain worship, and idol worship. The Feasts of YeHoVaH first mentioned in Exodus, commanded in Leviticus, observed in Numbers, and instructed in this Chapter of Deuteronomy focuses on three specific Feasts and where, when, and how the worship of YeHoVaH was to take place.

YeHoVaH’s Laws are Commandments of compassion that addressed various aspects and the conduct of community life for the nation maintaining justice, assuring that lawbreakers were punished and that those obedient to His Law prospered. In this portion of Deuteronomy, YeHoVaH gives Instructions for atoning for unsolved murder and marrying foreign women captured in war. Further Instructions are given for dealing with the firstborn sons of a polygamous marriage and the stubborn and rebellious son who disobeys his parents. The Chapter concludes with rules pertaining to death by hanging.

Attitudes, pertaining to maintaining peace, safety, the people’s ability to enjoy the bounties of YeHoVaH’s deliverance from Egypt, and their prosperity in the Promised Land is at the forefront of this extraordinary Chapter. In Israel’s preparation for going to war against their enemies, certain Instructions of exclusions were given to certain individuals in certain categories based on YeHoVaH’s Promises.

Asylum Cities and Justice

YeHoVaH established the holy nation of Israel to be a just society with righteous decrees and Laws that set them apart from all other nations. To maintain Israel as a just society, enforcing the Laws was paramount to assure that those who violated the Law were punished accordingly and those who obeyed the Law were protected. Embedded in the Law of YeHoVaH were provisions for accidental crimes or unintentional violations and how to handle those matters justly. This passage deals with such a matter.
