Thankfulness: A Practical Guide

November 27, 2016 • Graeme Sellers

Gratitude is a choice. It doesn’t just come upon you when Holy Spirit is the mood to bring it. And the more deliberately and regularly you choose it the more it reproduces itself in you. There is no spiritual gift of thankfulness. There is only the practice of it, and we cannot wait for optimal conditions to practice it. If we do we may never start!

Jesus Is Looking for Followers

September 25, 2016 • Graeme Sellers

There’s no shortage of opinion and perspective on leadership in America. But when we go to the Bible we find that God's answer to the question, "What is Leadership?" has a different starting place. Here’s where the Word places the starting line: Jesus isn’t looking for leaders—He’s looking for followers. To say this is not to devalue or undervalue the critical importance of leaders and leadership. But it is to state a gospel truth rather plainly: more than anything else, Jesus is looking for followers. And the Biblical principle is absolute: only followers are fit to lead.

The Kind of Truth That Rocks Our World

July 24, 2016 • Graeme Sellers

This is the kind of truth that rocks our world and obliterates our tidy theological systems: we think we’d better do something or we won’t be able to get close to God: change our attitude, pray more, have greater faith, repent. Whatever. Something! But we're wrong! All of these as Holy Spirit directs them are great but none of them work us any closer to Him. It’s when Asaph, the writer of Psalm 73, is in the pit that God answers him—not when Asaph pulls himself out of pit (as if he could). And the answer God gives is not intellectual, not theological; rather God gives the psalmist his own Self, his very presence: “Nevertheless I am continually with You; You do hold my right hand.” You’re a son, daughter—Your Father is with you, even when you are at your worst.
