Ephesians 2:11-22

Much like today, divisions existed in the ancient world, built on human systems, ethnicity and religious practices. Paul reminds us that we all stood equally separate from Christ and without hope. At the cross Jesus reconciled us to Himself, broke down the dividing walls among us, gave us direct access to God and is building for Himself a holy temple made up of the church.

Paul concludes the book of Ephesians by refocusing our gaze heavenward. He urges us to be people of prayer, praying at all times, about all things and for all people. It is prayer that enables us to fight our battles and be victorious through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is prayer that allows us fellowship with the Father, and it is prayer that refreshes and strengthens our souls. Are we devoted to prayer as we should be? As followers of Christ, we fight a spiritual battle that daily wages war against our souls. How can we prepare ourselves for an enemy that we cannot see? Paul commands us to do so by putting on the “Armor of God.” What does that mean, and how will this prepare us for a lifetime of battles against the enemy?
