John Part II: Living Beauty in a Broken World
John: A Present Hope
April 16, 2023 • LaShaude James • John 14:5–31
What would change in our life if we believed God's presence is with us forever (right now)? What would change in how we treat our neighbors if we believed God's presence is with us forever (right now)? God is with us forever (today) because Jesus prepared the way.
Easter 2023
April 9, 2023 • Austin Johnson • John 20:1–23, John 19:28–30, John 19:38–42
As we examine Jesus’ resurrection, we hone in on LIVING beauty in a broken world. We can look at something from the past, a piece of art, a past relationship, a former job, and so on with admiration and appreciation, but the Story of God, the Story of the Bible is not past tense. It’s not simply something that happened back then and we are admiring and appreciating what happened then. The resurrection points us to the reality that the Story continues on with us, but it’s contingent on this good news of Christ’s resurrection.
John: Missional Servant
April 2, 2023 • Austin Johnson • John 13:1–30
Our mission statement here at The Rim is to create space for people to discover the BEAUTY of Jesus. We believe that the beauty of Jesus is not something of the past, it’s alive. His majesty, glory, and beauty is something we as his church are called to emulate and reflect. The space we create for people to discover the beauty of Jesus primarily happens outside of this space on Sundays. Everyone has been given a masterpiece mission a space God has called you to fill with his beauty.
John: Purpose and Pain
March 19, 2023 • Austin Johnson • John 9
Your pain is not without purpose. Your experience is part of something bigger than yourself. This is one of the great mysteries and tension points of God’s story. Isn’t life supposed to get better when I follow Jesus? It depends on what you mean by get better and by whose standard?
John: Truth Telling Freedom
March 12, 2023 • Austin Johnson • John 8:12–59
What will set you free? What does it really mean to be free? What’s keeping us from freedom? As we create space for people to discover the beauty of Jesus our circle must become one of truth telling. It’s in that space of honesty that the face of Jesus becomes tangible and freedom comes home.
