Do you ever find yourself thinking too much about what people think about you? Most people are concerned about whether people like their clothes, haircuts and even the cars they drive. And the truth is they can be so obsessed with what people think about them that it keeps them from what God wants for their lives.

It's possible that Joseph, Jesus's earthly father, wrestled with what others thought about him.

In the first Christmas story, fear was everywhere. Over 2000 years later, we still have many of the same fears. We know that we're often paralyzed by what we're afraid of. In this message, Pastor Lance will finish our series, Do Not Be Afraid, talking about something many of us are afraid of but don't talk about, where we stand with God. The shepherds' story is remarkable because it demonstrates how God announced the birth of the Messiah to people considered unlikely to receive such a message. This is a powerful reminder that no matter how far we may feel from God, how low we may perceive ourselves to be, or how much we may believe our sins to have separated us from Him, we are never beyond the reach of His grace.

Do you have those people in your life that you try to avoid because they always want something from you? Whenever they call, you know they want something, so you let it go to voicemail. Or you'll see them in public and pretend that you don't see them because you know they will want something. Sometimes, we treat God that way. We want God's blessings but don't want to surrender ourselves completely to Him. We're afraid that He might ask us to do something we don't want to do. It reminds us of what it might have been like during the first Christmas story. In week two of Do Not Be Afraid, Pastor Lance deals with a fear we all have: the fear of what God may ask us to do.
