Author and Perfecter: Titus 3.1-8

June 13, 2021 • Ron Moore

Titus 3:1-8 • Saving us from the penalty of sin • Redeeming us from the slavery of sin • Forgiving our sin • Transforming us • Placing us into an eternal relationship with God • Guarantees our eternity No earthly cause is more important than a person’s eternal soul. Paul reminds us who we were: 1. It humbles us. 2. It makes us people of compassion. 3. It emphasizes how Jesus has transformed our lives. The heart of God is on saving, redeeming, cleansing, forgiving, and making us his sons and daughters. The gracious work of God is this: • He saved us from who we were by his grace—not based on anything we did or could do. • He redeemed us—we were under the penalty of death and he bought our freedom. • He cleansed us. Our heart was stained with sin and he washed it clean. • He forgave us of all our sins. • He made us his sons and daughters—his heirs • Now we wait for the full measure of that inheritance guaranteed in eternal life. 1. Without Jesus, I was dead in my sin, separated from God, and destined for his wrath. (v.1-3) 2. But God, by his love, mercy, and grace, made me alive in Christ when I trusted in Jesus. (v.4-9) 3. I’m God’s masterpiece, uniquely designed in Christ to do great works for my God. Author and Perfecter: Galatians 4:1-7

May 16, 2021 • Ron Moore

WHO WE ARE – ACCORDING TO PAUL IN GALATIANS 4:1-7 1. Who You Were (4:1-3) 2. How God Changed You (4:4-5) 3. Who You Are (4:6-7) Galatians 4:1-7 I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, 2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. 3 In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:4 • Deity: To be the Son of God was to be equal to God. • Pre-existence: Sent forth implies he already existed • Born of a woman: Virgin birth—foundational truth. Jesus was the eternal fully God and fully man. • Born under the law: Subjected himself to live under the law and did so perfectly. Even though he was tempted in every way as a man—he never sinned. Author and Perfecter: 1 Corinthians 15

May 2, 2021 • Ron Moore

THE GOSPEL SUMMARY (1 CORINTHIANS 15:3-9) 1. Jesus died for our sins (according to the Scriptures) 2. Jesus was buried as proof of his death. 3. Jesus was raised on the third day (according to the Scriptures) 4. Jesus appeared to many people over a period of time as proof of his resurrection. SUPPORT FOR THE RESURRECTION 1. Adam became a living being. The Author and Perfecter became a life-giving spirit. (1 Cor. 15:45) 2. The natural body is followed by the spiritual body. (1 Cor. 15:46) 3. Adam was from the dust of the earth. The Author and Perfecter came from heaven. (1 Cor. 15:47) 4. Those from the earth are like Adam. Those who know the Author and Perfecter inherit his spiritual nature. (1 Cor. 15:48). 5. We now bear the image of “the man of dust.” One day we “shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.” (1 Cor. 15:49). PRACTICAL APPLICATION FROM PAUL Based on the fact that we will spend eternity in heaven in resurrected bodies: • Be steadfast—stand firm—in the truth of God’s Word. • Be encouraged. Even in the challenging times. • Be immovable—don’t give in to temptation. • Keep your focus on the Author and Perfecter. Author and Perfecter: Introduction

April 18, 2021 • Ron Moore

Why is a focus on Jesus so important? What does a focus on Jesus look like? How can I keep my focus on Jesus? 1. Jesus is absolutely supreme over all things. THEME OF THE BOOK OF HEBREWS: • He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things (1:1-3) • He is greater than heaven’s best (1:4-2:18) • He is greater than earth’s best (3:1-6) • Jesus made the rituals of the OT obsolete (5:1-10:39) • He sympathizes with our weaknesses (4:14-16) • He will never leave us (13:5b-6) Founder — Author. Originator. Initiator. Perfector — Completer. Finisher. • He endured the cross. • Scorned the shame of the cross. • Sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 2. Read, study, and obey God’s Word. 3. Get rid of all spiritual baggage. 4. Run your own race.
