The Four Soils: The Good Soil

December 3, 2017 • Jeremy Peters

In Mark 4, Jesus uses the language of seed and soil to help illustrate how people respond to the Word of God. The Seed represents the WORD of God, and the Soil represents the condition of the hearts of people in response to the availability of the Kingdom of God. As powerful as seed is, it is always at the mercy of the SOIL it finds itself in. Jesus describes the path on which some seed is planted as being good soil. In Mark 4:20, Jesus explains what he means: Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.” The key word here is ‘accept’ and it means “to embrace with assent and obedience.” The hearer embraces Jesus as the WORD of God, and the Bible as the written Word of God, as being true and instructive and binding, and they set out to obey Jesus as the WORD – through listening to His voice by His Spirit and through the Bible. To not just be hearers of the Word, but doers also. This is the heart of true apprentices of Jesus, of those who are taking deliberate steps to reorder their priorities around Jesus as first in everything. Watch now as Pastor Jeremy unpacks this a bit further in Seed Thought #15

The Four Soils:The Crowded Soil

November 19, 2017 • Jeremy Peters

In Mark 4:18 Jesus explains what he means: Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Here the soil is soft enough that the seed can penetrate and the roots can grow deep because there are no rocks. The plant begins to spring forth, but then suddenly stops short at most critical moment – when the fruit is just about to appear. And you realize that you have an otherwise, perfectly healthy plant, except that there is no fruit. It looks fine on the outside, but there’s no life in it. The common characteristic of crowded soil is competition. Jesus highlights 3 things that compete for pre-eminence, for first place in our lives. Watch Pastor Jeremy unpack these 3 things in Seed Thought #14

The Four Soils: The Rocky Soil

November 12, 2017 • Jeremy Peters

In Mark 4:16, Jesus explains what he means: Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Watch now as Pastor Jeremy unpacks this more in this week's Seed Thought video!

The Four Soils: The Hard Soil

November 5, 2017 • Jeremy Peters

In Mark 4, Jesus uses the language of seed and soil to help illustrate how people respond to the Word of God. The Seed represents the WORD of God, and the Soil represents the condition of the hearts of people in response to the availability of the Kingdom of God. As powerful as seed is, it is always at the mercy of the SOIL it finds itself in. We have been tasked with the gift and responsibility to sow seed – the Word of God every where we go, and we believe that the physical building is to serve as a kind of Greenhouse. While no building has power in and of itself to bring about the revolutionary power of a seed, a Greenhouse is the kind of environment where the seed sown can most easily be nurtured, and flourish under the grace and power of God. The Four Soils: The Word of God

October 29, 2017 • Jeremy Peters

In Mark 4, Jesus uses the language of seed and soil to help illustrate how people respond to the Word of God. The Seed, Jesus tell us, represents the WORD of God. And John 1, makes it clear that Jesus Himself, is the living WORD of God and 2 Tim 3:16 tells us that All Scripture is God-breathed…that the Bible is his very WORD to us. The Seed Project – the name we’ve given to our Building Redevelopment – is all about our dream to see the very life of Jesus – the literal WORD – planted deep into the lives of every person in http://st.albert, and in this region and beyond – that His power and potential might be unleashed and that the Kingdom of God might become increasingly evident Watch Seed Thought # 11 now!

The Building: Fuel Efficiency

March 19, 2017 • Jeremy Peters

For most people, when considering a vehicle that will take them where they want to go, a key consideration is this: what vehicle will give me the best possible fuel efficiency? There are several things about our current vehicle for ministry, that is our existing facility, that significantly limit our current level of ministry efficiency. Watch as Pastor Jeremy shares another Seed Thought for The Seed Project! For more info on The Seed Project visit: http://staalliance.org/theseedproject
