Gospel of Mark

This is Who He Is

Fishers of Men

April 23, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 1:1–21

Join us this week as we begin our new series in the gospel of Mark, “This Is Who He Is!” We will cast a net into the deep waters of this amazing gospel that is full of action, hope, and - of course - lessons from the life of the Son of Man!

Everyone’s Looking for You

April 30, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 1:21–38

Follow Jesus as He “immediately” encounters one of the busiest days of his early ministry. Join us as we learn how He navigates the emotional and physical strain of ministering to the growing crowds made up of the lost, the sick, the unclean, and even the demon possessed!

Extra Mile

May 7, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 2:1–17

Have you ever been so blessed, so blown away, so taken back by the treatment you have witnessed or received by another that you said, “I have never seen anything like it?" This message will bear witness of four men who went the extra mile for a paralyzed man in order to bring him to Jesus, and then Jesus both did and said something that left everyone saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

Have Mercy

May 14, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 2:18–22

This week, Jesus will give us some helpful tools to handle the Pharisees in our life who enjoy pointing out the things they see in us that disappoint them.

Come to Me

May 21, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 2:23–28, Mark 3:1–6

This Sunday, the Pharisees will continue their barrage on Jesus and His disciples. This time, their concerns lie in regard to what they see as the disciples' complete disregard of the Sabbath laws. Look forward to "the Lord of the Sabbath’s” response, and be astonished by the Pharisees' reactions.

Chosen

June 4, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 3:7–19

We are entering at a very crucial part of Jesus’ earthly ministry -- the moment he calls his twelve apostles. These men will not only serve as his inner circle, but they are the men whom he will entrust with the greatest message on earth. Do they know what awaits them? Do they have any idea of the things they will witness, and how their lives will be changed as a result of their trusting obedience? It will be an adventure, for sure!

All the Noise

June 11, 2023 • Jon Adams • Mark 3:20–35

Mark is a book of action and we’ve seen Jesus “immediately” healing the sick, teaching the crowds, and choosing his followers. While there has been some resistance to Jesus so far, this week he will face new levels of rejection. Opinions, criticism, judgment, feedback — in Mark 3, the resistance to Jesus gets turned way up.  As we follow along Mark’s story, we’ll witness how Jesus deals with all the “noise” that comes when you’re trying to do the right thing, and we’ll learn his strategy for tuning out that noise and walking forward in obedience to God.

Healthy Things Grow

June 18, 2023 • Mark 4:1–20, Luke 22:31–32, Psalm 16:11, Colossians 3:13

Healthy things grow! It's true of plants, it's true of organizations and, as we will see this week, it is true of people! Jesus, in one of his most well-known parables, shows us what happens when the truth of God's Word is planted in a person's heart. Does the Word produce fruit, or is it choked out? And why? We will find out this Sunday as Pastor Ben teaches from Mark 4:1-20. Also, this Sunday is Fathers' Day, so we'll be taking a few moments to honor our dads and the significance they have in our lives. Looking forward to being together this week.

Storm Faith

June 25, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 4:21–41, Matthew 5:16, Matthew 17:20–21, James 2:6–8, Hebrews 11:6

We all may not be in the same boat but we all are in the same storm. When it seems like life is crashing and the waves are high, listen to the voice who says 'peace be still'.

I am Legion

July 2, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 5:1–20, Hebrews 1:13–14, John 8:44, John 10:10, Ephesians 6:12

Last week, Jesus got into the boat with his disciples to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. They encountered a storm on the water that would both test and grow their faith. However, nothing could prepare them for what they were about to encounter on “the other side.” Join us this Sunday as we discuss the reality of evil, the strategy of darkness, and the biblical response of the child of God.

More Than Able

July 9, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 5:21–43, 2 Chronicles 16:9, Luke 18:13, John 11:25, Hebrews 11:6

Last week, Jesus stopped his teaching and crossed to the other side to free a man from demonic possession in order to send a message of hope throughout the Gentile region. This week, we will follow Jesus as he leaves the other side and goes back to the crowds, where he will be interrupted by three people whose faith was being challenged. Have you ever had God deliver for you in the "eleventh hour"? Have you ever had something die on you that you were certain was God’s plan for you? If so, join us this week as we learn what “Talitha Cumi” faith is, and how it works!

Uncommon

July 16, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 6:1–13, Ecclesiastes 7:21–22, Galatians 1:10, Ephesians 6:12, Ephesians 4:26–27

Last Sunday, we were challenged to ascend beyond ‘mediocre faith’ and behave the way we believe. This week, we will follow Jesus, who is now at the pinnacle of his fame, as he travels back to his hometown of Nazareth, only to be rejected. It seems like now, more than ever, believers are tempted to be ashamed of their faith in Jesus Christ. Join us this Sunday as we learn how to be uncommon and thrive along the dusty path of worldly rejection.

Murder, She Wrote

July 23, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 6:14–29, Matthew 6:14–15, Mark 11:25, Hebrews 12:15, Colossians 3:13

Last week we witnessed what can happen to those whom God has called into the spotlight. This week we will witness what harbored anger, bitterness, and hatred can lead to from the murderous plot of Herod’s wife, Herodias. Join us this Sunday as we learn to cultivate uncommon responses to poor treatment so that we do not allow a grudge to grow a root of bitterness in our lives, or in our homes.

Sheep Without a Shepherd

July 30, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 6:30–44, Psalm 23, John 10:11–18, John 10:27

Last week, we watched a root of bitterness lead to the murder of John the Baptist. This week, weary from the relentless crowds and grieving the death of John the Baptist, Jesus and his disciples try to go into seclusion to rest. But the crowds keep coming. Though exhausted, he doesn’t look away . . . he looks on them, and does so with compassion. Why? He saw them as “sheep without a shepherd.” Join us this Sunday as we learn about the Good Shepherd!

Wavewalker

August 6, 2023 • Chris Heller • Mark 6:45–52, John 6:16–21, Matthew 14:26–32, Deuteronomy 31:8, Psalm 34:17–18

Last week, we witnessed Jesus feed the 5,000 with just five loaves and two fish. We asked ourselves, "What small thing could we give to Jesus that He would want to multiply?" This Sunday, we encounter another one of the more famous passages of scripture -- the time Jesus walked on water. Come as we explore why he did that, what was accomplished, and why it matters! Are you ready to be a wavewalker?
