Message #68: Who is This?

Matthew 21:1-11

March 28, 2021 • David Cotner

Today is Palm Sunday. On this day, we enter the 21st chapter of Matthew. This chapter inaugurates the Passion Week of Jesus. The so-called “Triumphal Entry of Jesus” sets off the events of this week, culminating in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. In today’s text, Jesus enters Jerusalem at the beginning of Passover and presents Himself one final, formal time as the King of the Kingdom of Heaven. How does Jesus present Himself? He comes riding into Jerusalem, not on a majestic horse, but mounted upon a donkey’s colt. Regardless, the crowds go wild! They shout statements of praise, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” But some people in the crowd didn’t understand what was going on. So, they ask, “Who is this?” It’s a question worth exploring. Who is this man? Who is Jesus of Nazareth?

As one commentator notes, this text (Matthew 28:16-20) is an “eminently teachable” section, ripe with relevancy and modern-day applications. So join us, one final time, as we dive into the book of Matthew to see and savor “Jesus In The Manuscript of Matthew”!

Message #86: The Glorious Resurrection!

September 5, 2021 • Matthew 28:1–15

As the old song goes, “Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior. Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord! Up from the grave He arose; with a mighty triumph o'er His foes; He arose a victor from the dark domain, and He lives forever, with His saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!” Yes, indeed! The tomb is empty, and Jesus is alive! And in today’s message from Matthew 28:1-15, we’ll investigate this historical account as relayed to us by the Apostle Matthew.

Message #85: The Crucifixion and Death

August 22, 2021 • Matthew 27:31–66

Today we enter into one of the darkest sections in all of Matthew’s Gospel Account. In Matthew 27:31-66, we witness the crucifixion, death, and burial of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ. The perfectly sinless One dies for the totally sinful ones. Today we’ll unpack the specific (even surprising) details surrounding Christ’s crucifixion. Then we’ll discover the supernatural effects surrounding Christ’s death. And then we’ll stand amazed at the split actions surrounding Christ’s burial. It’s all coming up next as we end Matthew chapter 27!
