It has been an incredible journey as we have feasted our eyes on Jesus, “the founder and perfecter of our faith.” As we enter this final installment, we will delve into the Great Commission text of Scripture. As one commentator notes, this text (Matthew 28:16-20) is an “eminently teachable” section, ripe with relevancy and modern-day applications. So join us, one final time, as we dive into the book of Matthew to see and savor “Jesus In The Manuscript of Matthew”!

Message #86: The Glorious Resurrection!

September 5, 2021 • Matthew 28:1–15

As the old song goes, “Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Savior. Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord! Up from the grave He arose; with a mighty triumph o'er His foes; He arose a victor from the dark domain, and He lives forever, with His saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!” Yes, indeed! The tomb is empty, and Jesus is alive! And in today’s message from Matthew 28:1-15, we’ll investigate this historical account as relayed to us by the Apostle Matthew.

Message #85: The Crucifixion and Death

August 22, 2021 • Matthew 27:31–66

Today we enter into one of the darkest sections in all of Matthew’s Gospel Account. In Matthew 27:31-66, we witness the crucifixion, death, and burial of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ. The perfectly sinless One dies for the totally sinful ones. Today we’ll unpack the specific (even surprising) details surrounding Christ’s crucifixion. Then we’ll discover the supernatural effects surrounding Christ’s death. And then we’ll stand amazed at the split actions surrounding Christ’s burial. It’s all coming up next as we end Matthew chapter 27!

Message #84: The Sentencing and Scourging

August 8, 2021 • David Cotner III • Matthew 27:1–31

Today we enter Matthew 27:1-31. As we do, we will witness the early Friday morning hours of Jesus’ passion week. We see so many things happening during these early morning http://hours...we see vipers slithering, Judas’ suicide, Jesus silent, crowds scream- ing, Pilate sentencing, and Jesus’ scourging. This fast-paced narrative is ripe with so many intense emotions as the suffering Servant gets ready to die for all of us...

Message #83: The Trial and Denial

August 1, 2021 • Tim O'Tool • Matthew 26:57–75

Today Pastor Tim continues our passion week narrative by diving into Matthew 26:57-75. In this section, we will observe the greatest injustice that has ever been carried out in history…The completely perfect One is put on trial by the completely sinful ones. We also will see that, again, Jesus perfectly predicts the future as Peter denies our Lord three times. Join us and see how we can identify with these sinful and flawed people and learn what God would have us do in light of that.

Message #82: Garden Groans

July 25, 2021 • David Cotner III

As we continue our somber journey through the 26th chapter of Matthew, we come now to the infamous Garden of Gethsemane. It was in this Garden that Jesus agonized in prayer to His Father while His three closest disciples fell asleep. It was also in this Garden that Judas Iscariot would finally and fully betray our Lord with the kiss of friendship. Join us as we immerse ourselves into this Garden scene in a message entitled, “Garden Groans”…

Message #81: Sorrow Flows

July 18, 2021 • David Cotner III

As we reenter the 26th chapter of Matthew, we will discover that as the darkness grows around Jesus, sorrow begins to flow from Jesus. In other words, as the forces of evil ramp up their attacks against Jesus in the form of religious evil and sinister plotting, Jesus enters into the Passover feast with mixed emotions, but His chief emotion is one of seriousness, sobriety, and sorrow. Eventually, Jesus’ own disciples enter into His sorrow, except one…For one of them was getting ready to betray Him…

Message #80: Darkness Grows

July 11, 2021 • David Cotner III

Today we enter the 26th chapter of Matthew’s Gospel Account. As we unpack the first 16 verses of this chapter, we will discover that the spiritual forces of darkness begin to ramp up their attacks as Jesus gets closer and closer to the cross. In today’s section of Scripture, we will discover the sovereignty of God in the face of pure evil, the essence of extravagant worship, and the beginning betrayal of our Lord from one of His own, Judas Iscariot.

Message #79: End Times - Part 3

June 27, 2021 • David Cotner III

As we land the plane on our mini-series through the Olivet Discourse, we dig into the parable of the talents and hear Jesus’ words on the final judgment at the end of the age. Jesus is crystal clear as He finishes off this epic sermon: faithfulness counts, and judgment is coming. Concerning judgment, Jesus doesn’t pull any punches and makes clear that, in the end, there will be some who enter eternal life, and some who enter eternal fire…

Message #78: End Times - Part 2

June 20, 2021 • David Cotner III

In part two of our mini-series through the Olivet Discourse, we ask ourselves this question: In light of Jesus’ 2nd coming, what should we do? As we dive into today’s text (Matthew 24:32 - Matthew 25:13), we’ll discover that in light of Jesus’ 2nd coming, we should trust, watch, serve, and prepare. Specifically, we should trust the words of Christ, keep earnest watch for Christ, continue faithfully while serving Christ, and be prepared well for Christ. Join us as we dive into a most practical section in this “notoriously difficult text” of Scripture.

Message #77: End Times - Part 1

June 13, 2021 • David Cotner III

In today’s message, we enter a “notoriously difficult text” as we dive into Matthew chapter 24. In this section, Jesus begins to make a prophesy about the “end of the age.” Jesus describes things like the temple’s destruction, “the beginning of the birth pains”, tribulation, great tribulation, and the coming of the Son of Man. How are we to approach and interpret these things? Well, good men and women differ on how to handle Jesus’ words in this passage, but Pastor Dave will do his best to offer his view clearly, boldly, and respectfully…

Message #76: The Golden Thread of Matthew’s Gospel Account…

May 30, 2021 • David Cotner III

Today we pause our forward progress through the Gospel of Matthew in order to review where we’ve been over the last couple of years. In fact, we’ll recap the first 23 chapters of Matthew by focusing our attention on a single golden thread that runs through this magnificent book. That golden thread being the message of salvation. So, it’s back to 30,000 feet as we re-examine the fact that Jesus came into our world “to save His people from their sins”!

Message #75: A Portrait of a Hypocrite

May 23, 2021 • David Cotner III

In the sovereignty of God, we enter Matthew 23 on May 23. This is a difficult and scary text of Scripture. One author phrases it like this: “Out of [Jesus’] mouth on this occasion come the most fearful and dreadful statements that Jesus ever uttered on earth.” This text deals with the subject of hypocrisy and provides no cotton candy or easy to hear statements. In this text, we are simply provided the uncomfortable grace of self-examination with a call to “repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”

Message #74: Back to the Basics...

May 16, 2021 • David Cotner III

In today’s message, Jesus brings us back to the basics. He reveals the greatest commandment and then asks the greatest question anyone could ever ask. So, what is the greatest commandment? In a nutshell, Jesus says it is to love God with the whole of your being and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. And what is the greatest question? It’s a question of identity…“What do you think about the Christ?” Join us as we dissect the greatest commandment and the greatest question and discuss what all of this means for our lives today.

Message #73: Our Resurrection Hope

May 9, 2021 • David Cotner III

As we continue our journey through Matthew, we reach an encounter between Jesus and the Sadducees. These religious rulers approach Jesus on the issue of the resurrection. They give Jesus a ludicrous hypothetical question about marriage and the resurrection. As Jesus answers, he offends the Sadducees, but amazes the crowd by his response. In today’s message, we examine the Sadducees, their question, and Jesus’ stunning answer.
