“Wonderment” is a word that permeates this season of Advent, and as we go through it, it is exciting to dive deeper into its meaning. Sometimes, we don’t stop to be amazed in what God is doing and has done for us.

However, nowadays, it is difficult to be amazed due to technology developments that make it seem that anything is possible. Amazement has been normalized. So, what can we do to not become desensitized to the wonders of God? We can be like children. To a child, everything is amazing. It is with this attitude and humble heart that we can see things in a different perspective (ref. Genesis 28:12-17; Psalm 8:3). Otherwise, the world rushes by us, and we fail to perceive the true goodness of what God is doing in every aspect, also in the natural world.

In the Pentecost service this year, the Chief Apostle talked about God, the Holy Spirit, and His activity to keep Christianity alive. As Christians, when we take the time every day and are intentional to ponder over what God has done and His faithfulness to us (ref. Lamentations 3:22-23), we can only be in wonderment!

"Maravilla" es una palabra que impregna esta temporada de Adviento, y a medida que atravesamos este tiempo de Navidad, es emocionante profundizar en su significado. A veces, no nos detenemos para asombrarnos de lo que Dios está haciendo y ha hecho por nosotros.

Sin embargo, hoy en día, es difícil sorprenderse debido a los desarrollos tecnológicos que hacen que parezca que todo es posible. El asombro se ha normalizado. Entonces, ¿qué podemos hacer para no volvernos insensibles a las maravillas de Dios? Podemos ser como los niños. Para un niño, todo es asombroso. Es con esta actitud y corazón humilde que podemos ver las cosas desde una perspectiva diferente (ref. Génesis 28: 12-17; Salmo 8: 3). De lo contrario, con el mundo que va de prisa a nuestro alrededor, no percibimos la verdadera bondad de lo que Dios está haciendo en todos los aspectos, también en el mundo natural.

En el Servicio de Pentecostés de este año, el Apóstol Mayor habló sobre Dios, el Espíritu Santo, y Su actividad para mantener vivo al cristianismo. Como cristianos, cuando nos tomamos el tiempo intencionalmente todos los días para reflexionar sobre lo que Dios ha hecho y Su fidelidad hacia nosotros (ref. Lamentaciones 3:22-23), ¡solo podemos estar maravillados!

The international theme for the year, “Prayer Works,” emphasizes prayer as a fundamental aspect of a Christian's life, discipleship, and relationship with the Lord. This raises important questions about the benefits and purpose of prayer. Prayer is formative for the soul and serves as a spiritual "home base" where believers connect with God daily. When we say "Dear Heavenly Father," we affirm our belief that God listens, highlighting the divine nature of prayer. It’s not merely about reciting what God already knows but about understanding His will and purpose. The phrase "In Jesus' name, we pray" signifies that our prayers seek to align with His will. Prayer isn't about changing God's mind but allowing ourselves to be touched and transformed by Him. The idea that “prayer changes things” and “prayer changes us” illustrates how prayer helps us understand God when we seek His will. Questions such as “If everything is ultimately God's will, why pray?” and “Should we just accept things as they are?” might suggest a view of God where everything seems pre-determined and our actions seem irrelevant. However, God cares deeply about our thoughts and choices. He values how we use the gift of the Holy Spirit and wants us to think in alignment with Him. Prayer involves not just communicating with God but also reflecting on our thoughts, with the Holy Spirit actively guiding us. For example, in decisions like choosing a school, there may not be a wrong option, but seeking where the Lord leads us is important. Regardless of the choice we make, God still loves and provides for us. The key is to seek His wisdom, as every path offers opportunities to praise and glorify Him. The Spirit is active in our prayers, interceding with groans too deep for words when we don’t know what to pray for, as Romans say. The Spirit advocates for us, even in our desperation. Jesus understands our struggles. Sharing our difficulties with Him creates a profound connection through prayer. We have this opportunity every day, whether our prayers are brief or lengthy. It’s a constant and powerful connection, a tool that works. ESPAÑOL ¿Por qué debemos orar? El lema internacional del año, “Orar funciona”, resalta la oración como un aspecto fundamental en la vida, el discipulado y la relación de un cristiano con el Señor. Esto nos lleva a reflexionar sobre los beneficios y el propósito de la oración. La oración tiene un efecto formativo en el alma y actúa como una “base espiritual” donde los creyentes se conectan con Dios todos los días. Before becoming an Apostle, he served as a District Rector in the New York area. One of his most significant formative experiences was discovering how to manage things going forward. His work with different congregations and groups of members in the diverse environment of New York provided him with valuable learning experiences, allowing him to gain a better perspective and connect more closely with the congregation. In terms of strategy, it's clear that the Lord guides everything when doing His work. From the direction given by the Chief Apostle in Buffalo, District Apostle Schnabel’s strategy can be described as "Forward Together." This phrase implies where we are going and acknowledges the journey we have already taken. District Apostle Kolb carried the work forward, and we will follow in that direction as guided by the Lord. On the other hand, the concept of “together” stands for the desire to deepen our relationships and foster a sense of unity and oneness as never before. We are emerging from the time of Covid, which brought individuality to an extreme. While some people may have enjoyed this, many of us came to realize the importance of being together. As we move forward, it's natural for us to emphasize the need for togetherness. While our church's mission and vision statements outline what we do and why, it's also important to consider how we do things. This encompasses our church's culture, which involves our relationships with others and with Christ. It's essential to work on these relationships, with Christ being always at the center and the unifying factor. Our Chief Apostle also emphasized this, saying, "We make Christians." We strive to bring the kingdom into people's lives every day, making our congregation unlike any other place they know. When people come through our doors, they should feel at peace and welcomed as we worship and praise the Lord. This creates an environment where we can get along and journey towards our true home. The Lord is guiding us on this journey, which is about being shaped into His image. This journey may have its challenges, but if we can achieve that, then when people come to our church, they'll feel the presence of the Lord. That's our goal. Antes de convertirse en Apóstol, él sirvió como Rector de Distrito en el área de Nueva York.
