Pride Paves the Path to Ruin. It was true for God’s people in the book of Amos, and it is true for us today. The Bible has a lot to say, directly and by negative example, about the necessity to avoid pride. Three hurdles on the roadway to ruin that must be overcome by God’s grace and mercy in our life are: arrogance, ignorance, and obstinance. In this sermon, we’ll see how arrogance leads to downfall.

Judgement Begins in the House of the Lord

As God’s people, we must learn from God’s people in the past. In the book of Amos, God has moved to the bullseye in His judgment from people in general to His people specifically. He started by announcing what all the surrounding nations had done wrong; now, he turns his attention to his people. He is not just pronouncing judgment on their actions but speaking to their disloyal hearts. Those of us who have faith in Christ are now God’s people. He has redeemed us and made us His own. While He is concerned with our actions, His more significant concern is our hearts. He wants to know that we are wholly His to the core of our being.
