A Study of the Book of Hesitations - We've been "Myth-Guided" by often misquoted scripture or sayings.
The Church Is Here To Serve Me
August 13, 2023 • Pastor Paul Vaughan • Acts 1:4–5, Acts 2:1–4, Acts 3:1–8, Acts 4:1–4, Acts 16:16–21
This week we will wrap up our sermon series "Mis-Guided." I want to personally thank all of our Elders and Pastors who stepped in to share God's word with us during this series. I hope that each of you were challenged and blessed as I was from each of their sermons. It is great to know that we are blessed with capable men who are not only able to be leaders within our church, but also able to share and teach God's word.
This week I will be wrapping up the series with a message that I believe has become prevalent within the church. The title of my message is "The Church Is Here To Serve Me!" The title itself should let you know that this will be a very challenging message. My prayer is that all of those in attendance and online will receive this message with an open heart and understanding of what God desires is for each of us as His followers.
Scripture: Acts 1:4-5, Acts 2:1-4, Acts 3:1-8, Acts 4:1-4, Acts 16:16-21, Acts 17:6-8

August 6, 2023 • Elder Larry • Philippians 4:13
This week we will continue with our sermon series titled "Mis-Guided." Our speaker for this week will be Elder Larry. He will be sharing with us the mis-understanding of the phrase Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through him who gives me strength."
THe question Elder Larry will help us to understand is "Can we really do anything if we involve Christ?" I believe it will be a great message that challenges us to better understand God's word and to not be mis-guided.
Scripture: Philippians 4:13

Stellar Faith
July 30, 2023 • Pastor Carlos Xavier • Matthew 18:3
In Matthew 18, he used a child as the object of his lesson to emphasize to them the type of faith - a childlike faith, that would expose them to the greatness of the kingdom.
In this sermon, we will hear what a childlike faith is, its impact and power on the life of the believer, and how we can begin to live it out today!
Scripture: Matthew 18:3

Words
July 23, 2023 • Elder Mike • James 3:1–12, Proverbs 4:4–5, Jeremiah 29:11–14, Matthew 18:15–20
This week we will continue with our sermon series titled "Myth-Guided." Our speaker for this week will be Elder Mike. He'll speak on the importance of how we use our words, and the Word of God.
Words are but one method we use to communicate. They can describe beauty, love, anger, and ideas. They can both lift us up, or drag us down. The Bible is also known as the “Word of God”. Words can be taken literally or figuratively. However, they can be twisted and taken out of context. Today’s message will hopefully demonstrate the dangers of misquoting God’s Word, and the dangers in failing to guard against incorrect meanings, insinuations, or inference of our words.
Scripture: James 3:1-12, Proverbs 4:4-5, Jeremiah 29:11-14, Matthew 18:15-20

Take Up Your Cross
July 16, 2023 • Brother Chad Cross • Luke 9:23–26
This week we will continue with our sermon series titled "Mis-Guided." Our speaker for this week will be Brother Chad Cross. He will be sharing with us the mis-understanding of the phrase "take up your cross and follow me" found in Luke 9:23.
The phrase "take up your cross and follow me," is a phrase that is commonly misunderstood to mean acceptance of some burdensome task or set of rules to live by. However, the command to take up the cross is much more than some burdensome tasks, set of rules, or a symbol of the difficulties experienced by humanity. Any person, whether a follower of Jesus or not will suffer frustration and pain in this life. Taking up one's cross and following Jesus is completely different. Join us as we learn the true meaning of "take up your cross and follow me."
Scripture: Luke 9:23-26

Mis-Guided
July 9, 2023 • Pastor Andrew Cheatham • Luke 7:36–50
Join us as we begin a new sermon series titled "Mis-Guided," In this series we will take a look at often misquoted scripture or sayings and teaching from Jesus that have misguided our understanding of what is being said or taught.
Pastor Andrew will help us understand Luke 7:36-50, a sinful woman who enters the house of a Pharisee to wash the feet of Jesus with her hair and tears.
The main idea will be along the lines of: When sinners encounter the grace and mercy of Jesus, they are drawn in to his forgiveness, driven to repentance, and compelled to worship.
In light of the sermon series, we will address the misconceptions that the Pharisees had about Jesus. They missed the significance of who He was and the authority He had to forgive sins. We can also miss who Jesus is, and the significance of his work on our behalf.
One of the misconceptions we will address is what Jesus says in verse 47 - “Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much” — It may look like Jesus is saying that her sins were forgiven BECAUSE she loved Jesus much. But what he is actually saying is that she loved much because she realized how much she had been forgiven.
Scripture: Luke 7:36-50
