Out of the Shadows

February 21, 2021

February 21, 2021 • Rev. Terry Minton

Life’s struggles and challenges can be difficult, taking the form of shadows hanging over us. The shadows we’re experiencing may be in the form of grief, conflict, or doubt. Jesus’ words to the crowd on the hillside and to his disciples as they walked along side him along with life stories from the Apostle Paul give encouragement and insight for finding our way out of the shadows and into the light. The Makings of a Right Spirit

March 14, 2021 • Rev. Julie Richardson

This Sunday we will spend some time with Psalm 51, a psalm of confession if there ever was one, and perhaps just exactly the psalm we need in a time when the hearts and souls of just about all of us are weary and worn with the heartache of the world. What might it mean to cleanse our hearts and renew our spirits in these days we are living? For more about Rev. Turning Tables

March 7, 2021 • Rev. Erin Wathen

There's a difference between calling out, and calling in. When you call someone out, you name their sin out loud. You put them in their place. Maybe you shame them, knock them down a few pegs. But when you call someone IN, you extend an invitation. You create space for growth and transformation. You open the door for restored relationship. The challenge, of course, is having the wisdom to know when it is time to flip over the table, maybe even bring the whole house down...And when it is time to call folks in. Jesus seems to have a pattern for this. There aren’t many times when we see him angry, flipping over tables. Most often, he turns tables in other ways. Disciples of today find ourselves at a unique moment in history. When so many are hungry and hurting; when the gap between the privileged and the marginalized continues to grow; and when so much of life as we knew it has been lost to a season of quarantine… there is a wide open space to build what’s next. Will we go back to what was? Or can we whip up something new, something better? The space has been cleared. The foundation is there. What will we build? For more about Rev. Can These Dry Bones Live?

February 28, 2021 • Sara Don Bailey

Covid-19 hit us all hard. 2020 was a year in which collectively we all experienced some sort of grief due to this global pandemic. We may have grieved the loss of a job, a loved one, time spent with our loved ones, or our overall sense of normalcy. As we each process our losses, it is crucial the church is creating a brave, safe space for us to have shameless conversations with one another regarding mental health. In this sermon, Sara Don offers her testimony of her own struggles with mental health and how God met her in “the valley of dry bones” when she was almost at her breaking point. Sara Don offers a word of hope if you or your loved ones are battling mental health challenges. She encourages you today that God does not leave you alone in this dry valley that feels painfully isolating. Scripture used in this sermon: Ezekiel 37: 1-7 For more about Sara Don Bailey and other upcoming preachers at First Christian Church, please visit: https://www.fcclouisville.org/single-post/upcoming-preachers-at-fcc To support this ministry, please text fcclouisville 77977 or visit www.fcclouisville.org/give *When you send “FCCLouisville” to 77977 you will receive a one-time reply containing a link to give to First Christian Church of Louisville (1msg/request).
