This week we will be reading Revelation 8-12. Much of what John writes to us is hard to read because it deals with God’s justice and wrath on those who reject Him as God. In fact, in Revelation 9:20-21, we read “The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshipping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.” It is clear that even in the last days, mankind will be living in rebellion against the Almighty God.
However, in the midst of these tough passages to read, we get a glimmer of hope. In Revelation 12, we read of a quick synopsis of the spiritual battle that is happening between God and Satan, and it references a male child being born that will rule nations and defeat Satan – referring to Jesus.
As you read this week and prepare for Christmas, be reminded that while we deal with sin in its various forms in the present, a day is coming where we will celebrate because we have “conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Rom 12:11)
