Sunday - Overview - Luke 7-11
March 9, 2025
The Greek word "Thaumazō" means “amazed” and appears sixty-one times in the Gospels. It often describes the people being amazed at Jesus’ miracles and teachings. Twice in the Gospels, Jesus is amazed. In Mark 6:6, Jesus is amazed by the unbelief of the people of Nazareth, while in Luke 7:9, He is amazed by a Centurion's faith.
Jesus is amazed by the faith of a Gentile, Roman soldier…think about that for a moment! What about you and me? Would Jesus be amazed at our faith? How can we strengthen our faith? The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about God.”
Let us turn to this week's Scripture. The reading includes events that underscore Jesus' compassion for humanity and his supreme authority. While some of these stories are familiar from Matthew and Mark’s Gospels, Luke's Gospel presents three parables that are unique to his account.
Enjoy this week's Scripture and continue to strengthen your faith by staying in God's Word!
