If the accumulation of sin in your life is overwhelming, you will receive encouragement from the prayer of Nehemiah 9. It is the longest recorded prayer in the Old Testament. It rehearsed God's righteousness against sin after sin. Yet, God continued to forgive them. He will do the same for you.

Now that the wall was complete (Neh. 6), Nehemiah turned his attention to repopulating and revitalizing the city of Jerusalem. A city is more than walls, gates and houses - a city is people. In the first half of the book, the people existed for the walls, but now the walls must exist for the people.

What is easier: starting a job or finishing a job? We can be easily distracted from completing a job. Nehemiah is a wonderful example. Just when the work of rebuilding the Jerusalem walls seemed about to be finished, the enemy attacked. But Nehemiah finished. Some of the same attacks are used against us.

In Nehemiah 5 we discover a story of inner conflict of a group of people doing a good work for God. Nehemiah 1-3 tells about the repair work of the wall around Jerusalem. Nehemiah 4-6 describes the opposition. In Nehemiah 5 we discover that the construction stopped because of some inner conflict. No building is recorded in this this chapter. Our church is doing a great work – making disciples. Yet, we will face opposition. Some of that opposition could be ourself. This chapter will give us some insight.
