Sermon Notes by Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 1:1-11

June 3, 2018 • Pastor Ray Bollas

For 400 years the Nation of Israel sat in silence. God had not sent them a prophet to speak to them since Malachi, and for 400 years, the people sat in silence. Then with a thunder, a man comes on the scene, John the Baptist and cries out to the people, prepare ye the way of the Lord……. The King is Coming! And the King is none other than God’s Son, and God Himself. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 1: 12-13

In this teaching, we will cover just two verses, Mark 1:12-13; Jesus’ wilderness testing. We joke, but it so true, that we seem to be in a trial, or coming out of a trial, or going into a trial. Well I decided to slow down to just two verses today so we can talk about this. We can so often wonder why am going through this trial, why now, where’s God, when will this ever end, and Lord what are You doing? So an outline for our study, and our remembrance, that in every trial, there is a Timing, a Revealing, an Instructing, an Audience, and Loving. T-R-I-A-L. Mark 1:14-20

In this passage, Jesus begins preaching and proclaiming the Good News. He will give very clear directions on how to get to heaven, to enter into the kingdom of God, to be forgiven of sin and to have new life. And the Good News is still good news today regardless how long ago you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, for each day, today being one of them, you can receive the good news again, not for salvation, but restoration, that as you pick up the spots and soils of this world, we have the good news that we can be cleansed and forgiven, made white as snow, and walk in beautiful and perfect harmony with our heavenly Father. How glorious, as His mercies are new every morning, great is His faithfulness. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 1:21-34

Jesus is about a year, maybe year-half, into His public ministry. In our last study He called His first disciples (Andrew, Peter, James, and John), and today we study “a day in the Life of Jesus”, as these verses all take place in a 24-hour period. It begins with Jesus entering the synagogue in Capernaum, and preaching, and then literally…… hell breaks loose, for the Word of God is living and powerful, and no one can stay neutral when they hear it, it shakes the very core of hell, and I pray it shakes our very souls today. That we don’t come to church today because it is what we do, but we come today seeking the Living God, to shake our lives, to move us beyond motions, but give us life and that more abundant, to know Him more, to become more like Him, to impact every area of our lives, and then take us out of here to impact the lives of our area. That people will know, we have been with Jesus. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 1:35-45

Prayer is conversation with God, so consider that statement that if you consider your prayer life a burden or boring what you're saying because I can tell you God is anything but a burden and boring. And we have it here declared through the scriptures, 31,102 verses of just a pure, amazing, mighty, awesome, exciting God who's loving, compassionate and gracious unto thee. And that's what prayer should be. When we sit with him, he'll warm our hearts and heal, stoke the fire, and then send us fourth. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 2:1-12

In this message, we will read a powerful passage. First, we look once again upon the love and compassion Jesus has on lost and hurting man. And, then we will glean practical principles and practices on getting our friends to Jesus, what obstacles we need to overcome, and how to overcome them, so that we might get our friends in need, to Jesus, that they may see the face of Jesus, hear His voice, and experience His touch. Jesus is about 1.5 years into His public ministry since His baptism. He is about 2 years from the cross. Jesus’ popularity is exploding, people are pressing in to get to hear His teaching and see His miracles. The religious leaders are taking notice, and are starting to come out see for themselves, and so begins the critics and challenges to His ministry. In today’s passage we will see how we can find fulfillment and freedom in Christ, despite the challenges and criticism to our faith. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 3:1-12

Jesus’ ministry has exploded, His popularity as we will see in our chapter is drawing people from miles away, upwards of 100 - 200 miles. Swelling crowds will press in upon Him so much so that He needs a boat to preach from some days, and thus based on that, some estimate there are times where Jesus is preaching to upwards of tens of thousands of people at one time. But, regardless of swelling crowds, He is “The God of the One”, and see individuals in the midst of a crowd, and He see you today, individually, every detail of your life, every need, every care, every heartache, every triumph, every high and every low. God sees you today and seeks you out to minister to your heart through this Word. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 3:13-19

In today’s message we read the historical account, and it has of course historical significance, as these first apostles (minus one) will change the world. But there's more than a history story here. There is something as always in the scripture that is personal to you as we read of God's intimate relationship with those that He chooses, that He calls and that He sends out, and so there's a significance here for our learning as we read about these 12 who were first called and sent. In this study, we will cover the power of the radically changed life, the weakness of a house divided, and the power of the house united. We will also learn what is the unpardonable sin, and what isn’t the unpardonable sin. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 4:1-20

The Parable of Sower is a great mystery. God wants to reveal something deep to us, something that not everyone will understand, but He wants to make it known to you. The God of the universe, wants to share a mystery with you, because He wants you to understand something, He wants you to have something. And in our passage today it is how to have a fruitful life, an abundant life, as man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. The Lord will teach us how to unlock, understand, apply the parables. Calvary Chapel Anne Arundel | Pastor Ray Bollas

Mark 4:21-32

There are three things will learn in this study: A special promise from God, the more we hear and take in, the more He will give us and pour out to us; The Word of God is supernatural, and we can simply rest in its super natural ability to do what it was designed to do; and lastly, be careful little ears, what you hear.
