Exodus 24

April 22, 2024 • Dan Sexton

Even in the age of frozen dinners, fast food, and eating in front of the TV, most of us still value sitting down to dine with the people we care about. Whether your everyday meals are given this reverence or not, you can likely think of special times each year when you make it a priority to slow down and eat a meal with your loved ones. As Pastor Dan will point out in today’s message, this practice bore a lot more significance in ancient culture, as does Jesus’ promise to serve us and eat with us when He returns.

Ministry is defined as the spiritual work or service of Christians. That being said, what do you think is the highest form of ministry? Could it be serving people in a soup kitchen, or going on a missions trip to a third-world country? While those are good and worthwhile ministries, they aren’t the highest form according to Pastor Dan. In today’s message, he proposes prayer is the highest ministry for a follower of Christ to participate in. Prayer is the only thing the disciples asked Jesus to teach them.

If you’ve ever tried to start a new workout plan or change the way you eat, you know it’s not a one-time decision, you have to make a consistent effort. Eating healthy and working out one day is a good start but won’t really make a difference. As Pastor Dan reminds you in today’s message, following Jesus is the same way. You have to decide to follow Jesus daily! You have to decide to be the “burnt offering” every day, not once a week or a year. That creates a pattern of sacrificing for the Lord.

Have you ever had someone do something for you completely unsolicited? You may have had someone pay for your meal unexpectedly, or buy you a gift for no particular reason. When there is no expectation of repayment or reward of any kind, that can turn a bad day around in an instant. In today’s message, Pastor Dan explains how when you willingly submit to God and follow Him because you actually want to, not because you feel like it is required, is like a sweet aroma to Him.
