Combating the Christmas Blues

December 6, 2020 • Randall Snipes

Christmas is a wonderful time of year where we can come together and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. However, this time of year can also be difficult for many people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Not having that special person in our lives during the holiday season can give us the "Christmas Blues". The Apostle Paul gives us hope in the book of 1 Thessalonians that we will one day be together with those who have gone before us. While we are here, however, we must remember to encourage one another and build each other up. Most importantly, remembering to rejoice always, pray constantly, and give thanks in everything. These things will combat the "Christmas Blues".

Our Hope Is in the Lord

Hope is the expectancy of happiness and the optimism of good ahead. The problem is that hope is only as strong as what it is anchored to. Hebrews 6:19 tells us that our hope must be anchored to Jesus. Apart from Jesus, life is a series of hopeless events. God, however, has given believers two promises that should give us hope today. As a believer in Him, our sins are forgiven and our future is secure! These two things may not cure the temporary pain or depression but they are the substance of ongoing hope.
