Living Words 14: Dwelling in God's Presence

April 7, 2024

During times of suffering and grief, we may wonder if God is with us because we cannot sense his presence. Assuming he has abandoned us, we strive to live life as best we can on our own. Though in the past, the Jerusalem Temple was God’s assurance of his presence with his people, we now have the promise of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit to assure us, for the Spirit has made our heart his home. (Based on 1 Kings 8:22-30 & John 20:19-31.)

Living Words 19: Embracing Divine Purpose

When a problem arises, our first response is to deal with the surface issue, but often there is a deeper issue that needs to be addressed. When they are identified, these deeper issues can be very challenging because attempting to solve them requires us to take risks or make sacrifices that we would not normally do. Only with faith in God can we take our place in the solution he has for this situation. (Based on Esther 4:1-17.)

Living Words 18: Overcoming Opposition

May 5, 2024

Sometimes we face challenging opposition as we do what God calls us to do. Ideally it would be otherwise, but we don’t live in an ideal world. We live in a broken, hurting world where evil strives to counter the good things God wants to accomplish in the world. But our faithful God is greater than evil, and he will provide the direction, discernment and strength we need to persevere for goodness in the face of evil opposition. (Based on Nehemiah 6:1-15.)

Living Words 17: The Heart of Worship

April 28, 2024

It is common for us to have our heart pulled in two different directions by the various things and people we love. But having a divided heart will prevent us from giving our lives fully to God and living the wholehearted life that he wants to give to us. Thankfully, God heals and strengthens our divided hearts through the gracious generosity of his love. (Based on 1 Chronicles 29:10-20.)
