Hope: True or False?

November 14, 2021 • Dr. Chad Everhart • Jeremiah 29:4–14

Hope: True or False? Jeremiah 29:4-14 Believers must avoid false hopes from false prophets when things seem hopeless (v.4-9) Believers must listen to God's Word when things seem hopeless (v.10-11) Believers must turn back to the LORD who is their true hope when things seem hopeless (v.12-14) 1. Be careful who you listen to and in what you put your hope 2. Derive your hopes and dreams from God's Word alone 3. Make repentance and faith in Christ a daily lifestyle

Heaven

November 7, 2021 • Pastor Bob Russell

“Heaven – How Do I Get There?” John 14:1-6 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus said, Trust me, not yourself. “You, believe in God; believe also in me.” He is trustworthy because of: Of His supernatural identity. He said, “If you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father." He is trustworthy because of: His impeccable integrity. “He was tempted in every way just as we are and yet was without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15) He is trustworthy because of: His keen intellect. “No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied. (John 7:46) Jesus is worthy of your trust because of: His miraculous power. “Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles.” John 14:11 Jesus is worthy of your trust because of: His sacrificial death “God laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6) He is trustworthy because of: His bodily resurrection, Luke 24:1-8 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6 He is not here; he has risen!” Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7 ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” 8 Then they remembered his words. Jesus said: Put your focus on Heaven not on earth. “In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” Jesus said” …Be confident you’re going there and don’t doubt…You know the way to the place where I am going,” Here’s a sobering Biblical fact…The majority of people are not going to Heaven. Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14 How do you follow Jesus? How can you be assured of eternal life? Admit that you have sinned and separated yourself from God “all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory,” Romans 3:23 Believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Confess that Jesus is the Lord of your life. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) Demonstrate your allegiance to Christ by repenting of sin and being baptized into Christ. Acts 2:38 reads, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

The Mercy Of God

October 24, 2021 • Pastor Allen Bonnell

The Mercy of God Jonah 1. Practice first time obedience. 1:1-3, 3:1-3 2. Develop a heart like God’s for people. 1:17, 2:10, 3:10 4:2 “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 3. Remember that it is about God not you. 3:5, 4:4-11 1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.” 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey in breadth. 17 And the Lord appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. - Jonah 1:17 10 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land. - Jonah 2:10 10 When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way, God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it. - Jonah 3:10 2 And he prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster. - Jonah 4:2 5 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. - Jonah 3:5 4 And the Lord said, “Do you do well to be angry?” 5 Jonah went out of the city and sat to the east of the city and made a booth for himself there. He sat under it in the shade, till he should see what would become of the city. 6 Now the Lord God appointed a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to save him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the plant. 7 But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the plant, so that it withered. 8 When the sun rose, God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on the head of Jonah so that he was faint. And he asked that he might die and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.” 9 But God said to Jonah, “Do you do well to be angry for the plant?” And he said, “Yes, I do well to be angry, angry enough to die.” 10 And the Lord said, “You pity the plant, for which you did not labor, nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night and perished in a night. 11 And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?” - Jonah 4:4-11
