Prodigal Series

Sabbath Worship Service | Prodigal Series | "Prodigal"

Prodigal. What comes to mind when you hear or read that word? Do you think of someone who is wayward? What if I told you that the word, though now synonymous with being a lost person, has nothing to do with going astray? In the Gospel of Luke, the author targets this prodigal theme—most famously with the parable of The Prodigal Son. Beginning with this week, we will begin a new series, simply entitled: Prodigal, and see how this one misused word is at the center of unlocking our hearts and future.

"You Lost Me"

Does God lose us? No, serious question. The second parable in the prodigal series of parables has a woman losing one of her coins. The woman represents God in that parable. I’ve often wondered quietly (and at times aloud), “Is God truly responsible for all the sin and loss in the world?” Think about it. How can an omniscient God, in good conscience, knowingly create a world of failure, stubbornness and rebellion? The gloves are coming off for the second message in our Prodigal series, “You Lost Me.”

"Good, Good Father"

Is it possible to love someone too much? To love so hard you lose all objectivity? This week we deal with the third and final parable in Jesus’ prodigious series of stories describing God’s love for the lost. This parable has so much narrative that we’ll have to tackle it in parts. Don’t miss the dramatic third part of our Prodigal series entitled, “Good, Good Father.”

"Always With You"

Elephant in the room: Grace is uncomfortable . . . for everyone! The older brother in the prodigal son parable may be more vilified than anyone deserves to be in his circumstances. This week we conclude our four-part series entitled Prodigal, and discover why Jesus was so intent on telling three similar stories in succession. What did He want His audience to walk away with knowing about God? What did He want them to walk away knowing about themselves? Don’t miss out on the climactic conclusion of the Prodigal series, “Always with You."
