John tells the rest of this story about the woman at the well. He deals with what happens to the woman and the town of Sychar in two parts at the beginning and the end of this story. In the middle, he gives us the words of Jesus to his disciples that explain what is happening with the woman and the town.

Treasure That Dominates Our Heart

Jesus offers himself to us as the food that is eternal. No amount of working for God can get us to eternity. He is free. He does the work needed on the cross. All we can do is eat, or, believe, and live. And this becomes the treasure that dominates our heart, Jesus. He changes everything.

Bread in the Boat

John tells this short story of Jesus’ walking on the water to clarify something in the story about the loaves and fish. Jesus does another miracle but it is for His disciples. He shows them that in the dark, in the storm will He walk on water to be with them. And when they take Him into their boat, they feel secure and at peace.

Trying to Feed on the Wrong Thing

In this miracle of taking five loaves, a few fish, and feeding over five thousand people, Jesus opens up a window about who He is. He doesn’t do this so we might get excited about getting what we want, but that we might see that he is better than anything we ever wanted.
