𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘢𝘳, 𝘖 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦, 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨; 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩! . . . 𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟳𝟴:𝟭,𝟰

Christians are recipients of teachings of God’s word. We are disciples—students who diligently obey what we have been taught. In this passage, the psalmist encourages God’s people to listen and tell others about what they hear. In our context today, we have heard the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and are commanded to make disciples (Matthew 28:19) to ensure that what we have heard is taught and passed on to others (2 Timothy 2:2). For a Christian, all roads lead to discipleship. Let’s look at what this means and how we can apply it in our lives.

𝟭. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗱.

𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘢𝘳, 𝘖 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦, 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨; 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩! 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦; 𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘭𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘯, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘶𝘴. 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟳𝟴:𝟭–𝟯

First, we are recipients and students of God’s word. We all need to read, study, and grow in our understanding of God’s word. We are taught by those who have come to know Christ before us, in order for us to also grow in our relationship with God. We intentionally give and incline our ears to what God says through the people who teach us to follow Him. Share how you first learned about God and who taught you to love Him.

𝟮. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.

𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘖𝘙𝘋, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝘏𝘦 𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘑𝘢𝘤𝘰𝘣 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘸 𝘪𝘯 𝘐𝘴𝘳𝘢𝘦𝘭, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯 . . . 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟳𝟴:𝟰–𝟲

Second, we are to pass on what we know and teach this to others. We are to tell others about God and what He has done. The gospel and the work of God should not stop with us. We are to respond to the Great Commission of Jesus with obedience, urgency, and commitment. Why is it important to proclaim Christ and help others follow Him, as we have been taught?

𝟯. 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀.

. . 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯, 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 . . . 𝗣𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗠 𝟳𝟴:𝟲–𝟳

Third, we are to do our part so that the next generations would know about and love God, too. The gospel was passed on to us with boldness and sacrifice, from the time of the twelve disciples until the person who told you about Jesus. What do you think would happen if we kept the best news ever of our salvation to ourselves? Why should we remain steadfast in helping others make disciples as well?

𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

• Are you a disciple? Are you making disciples? What is one thing you can do to apply what we talked about today?

• Recall who told you about Jesus and helped you follow Him. Take some time this week to appreciate these people.

• Consider the reality of not knowing when someone would die. Why is there an urgency to tell people about God and make disciples? What are you willing to do about it today?

𝗣𝗥𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥

• Thank God for His grace, mercy, and love for you. Thank Him for sending Jesus to die on the cross to save us from His wrath.

• Ask God to help you see the lost around you as He does, feel compassion for them the way He does, and respond to them as He would.

• Pray for your family members and friends who need to know about Jesus. Ask God for opportunities, boldness, wisdom, urgency, and empowerment from the Holy Spirit for you to help them follow Jesus.
