When God called Abraham to a journey of faith it was more than just a physical journey but it was also a faith journey with Him. Abraham was told that his descendants will inherit the land. "Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, To your descendants I will give this land... " (Genesis 12:7 NKJV). But how were Abraham's descendants to inherit the land if he did not have a child? That was Abraham's problem. To fix the problem God started with Abraham first. He was called Abram by his parents. Abram means "Exalted Father" in Hebrew. But just as God was getting ready make Abram daddy, God changed Abram's name to Abraham which means "Father of many nations" in Hebrew.

Was that an insult to call a man "Father" when for almost 25 years he was childless? Or was God trying to embarrass Abraham? What was God doing? I believe God was calling what is not as though it is. "(as it is written, I have made you a father of many nations ) in the presence of Him whom he believed God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;" (Romans 4:17 NKJV). You say but pastor, Abraham's ability to bear a child when He was 99 years old is too good to be true! That is exactly the point. The grace of God also looks too good to be true! God called Abraham " father" when he was not. In the same way the grace of God enables us to be called righteous even though we don't feel like it or don't deserve it. Yet because of the grace of God we are made righteous by faith! It is a righteousness by faith through Jesus Christ and no longer by law or human effort ( Romans 3: 22).

Does Grace look too good to be true?

The forgiveness of Jesus also looks too good to be true because Romans 5:10 says that we were reconciled to God while were enemies of God.

The death of Jesus also looks to good to be true because while we were still sinners He died for us ( Romans 5: 8).

Our salvation also looks too good to be true because we were saved not by our effort, the goodness of our heart or our obedience but purely by the grace of God. ( Ephesians. 2:8-9).

Our acceptance before God also looks too good to be true because it's not fair we have the tendency for sinful nature because of one man's (Adam) disobedience. Likewise is it fair that the obedience of one man ( Jesus Christ) we are all made righteous and accepted before God!
