Anger to Patience

Ephesians 4:26-32We all know that anger can be destructive and yet we all feel anger! As we continue our journey through the seven deadly sins, we confront one of the most obviously deadly sins. Pride to Humility

Many have called pride the root of all sin. Pride is certainly condemned in the Bible, but is all pride bad? Can’t there be good pride? Join us this week at Troy Methodist Church as we tackle the seventh of the deadly sins - Pride. We will learn the difference between good pride, bad pride, and deadly pride - particularly that which Jesus condemns the most, spiritual pride. Even more importantly, we will discover a pathway from our pride to the biblical virtue of humility. Invite a friend!

Gluttony to Self Control

Gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of food or drink to the extent of extravagance and waste. Gluttony is taking something good, even something necessary, and elevating it to an unhealthy place. In gluttony, we use food to give us what it cannot give - comfort, security, joy, even affirmation - things that only God can truly give. And the results can be devastating. Join us this Sunday to confront this deadly sin and seek God’s transformation from gluttony to self-control and be filled with delight in Jesus.

Greed to Generosity

July 28, 2024 • Marissa Horning • Luke 12:15–21

This Sunday, we will continue our examination of the Seven Deadly Sins by looking at the sin of greed – where it comes from, why it is so deadly, and how God’s people must pursue radical generosity instead. Gather with our church family again this week as we look at the way the sin of greed distorts how the people of God are meant to live and thrive in the Kingdom of God. In order to live in right relationship with God, ourselves, and all of God’s creation, we must recognize our ungodly relationships with wealth, turn away from them, and work to bring our hearts and lives into alignment with God’s call for generosity.

Washed

We hope you’ll join us this Sunday for a special time of ministry and prayer! Instead of focusing on another one of the Seven Deadly Sins we will be pausing to reflect on our journey so far. There will be extended times of prayer for healing and transformation as we remember that although our lives may have been damaged by Lust, Sloth, or Envy, we have been WASHED in the grace of God, justified in Jesus’ name, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit. We can’t wait to see how God’s Spirit ministers to us and through us on Sunday!

Envy to Honor

July 14, 2024 • Andy Adams • Galatians 5:16–26, Romans 12:9–15

Envy is a longing desire for something that belongs to someone else. Can you believe that envy is lumped together with sexual immorality and murder as sin that keeps you from experiencing God’s Kingdom? Can envy be that bad? Join us this Sunday as we continue our exploration of each of the “Seven Deadly Sins” and God’s prescription for overcoming them. We will discover just how deadly envy can be for ourselves and the church. More importantly, we will learn God’s solution for envy as we allow God’s Spirit to transform our hearts from envy to honor. This would be a great week to invite a friend!

Transformation from Sloth to Passion

This Sunday we will learn about our second of the “Seven Deadly Sins,” the sin of sloth. Scattered throughout Scripture we see the sin of sloth being rebuked and the people of God in turn being reminded to not take this sin lightly. Join us at Troy Methodist Church this upcoming Sunday as we explore what it means to turn away from the sin of sloth and pursue passion through our acknowledgement of the goodness of God. Lust to Purity

We’re going right for the difficult one first! Yes, as we begin our exploration of each of the “Seven Deadly Sins” we’re beginning with LUST. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that sex matters to God and how we use or abuse sex can either bring glory to God or lead to our pain and destruction. Join us at Troy Methodist Church this Sunday as we explore what it means to honor God with our bodies sexually and the many ways that can be corrupted. We will also discover what it means for married and single people to live lives of purity and find hope in the transforming power of God’s Holy Spirit to move us from lives of lust to lives of purity!

Restoring the Image

This Sunday we will begin a study of the BIG seven – the “Seven Deadly Sins” and discover what makes each so dangerous to our spiritual lives. More importantly we will call upon the Holy Spirit to transform us to live virtuous lives! In this series we will learn about the lifelong journey to restore God’s image in us, explore each of the “Seven Deadly Sins” and their opposite virtues, as well as soak in extended times of prayer and worship seeking transformation only God can bring.
