Pentecost Sunday is the day we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to begin the mission of the church in Jesus Christ’s name. Traditionally, the images of fire and wind are seen in this day. Fire is also an image that appears in the story of the devoted believers who were thrown into a furnace for their belief in God. We’ll explore the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego who were among the first followers formed by fire.

The story of Jesus walking on water is an action-packed miracle about Jesus defying the laws of nature in a way only a superhero can. But taking a step back and viewing it from 30,000 feet, it is also the story of God’s grace that shines through even (and especially) on the longest, hardest, most exhausting days imaginable.

Esther is an odd book in our Bible. It reads more as a political drama than a piece of holy scripture. But in it we find one of the more telling books of our Bible that describes a person’s loyalty to her people. We’ll re-tell the story of Esther and re-tool our understanding of dedication.

Palm Sunday is a day when people who were hungry for a messiah looked to Jesus and welcomed him into the great city of Jerusalem. It’s a day filled with excitement and anticipation. It’s also a day when we recall how quickly people’s feeling change and how swiftly our attitudes alter when hopes are not fulfilled as we expected. Even in the wilderness, we have expectations. We’ll look at the people in the Palm Sunday events going all the way to Good Friday.
