Rapha: The Lord Who Heals

September 18, 2022 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Exodus 15:22–27

In Exodus 15, God led the Hebrew people three days journey beyond the Red Sea into the wilderness. They were distressed because they found no water. They came to a place called Marah where they did find water, but the water was bitter; it was salty or brackish. Here the Hebrews learned significant spiritual lessons which apply to us as well. Traveling through the desert, they faced the question, “How are we to survive? How will we live?” It’s a question of faith for them and for us. The problem was in how they responded. They responded with grumbling, rather than gratitude. Yet God is grace used the moment to reveal that God is a healer, in any and every situation. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Rohi: The Lord is My Shepherd

September 11, 2022 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Psalm 23

Psalm 23 may be the most well-known and beloved of all the Psalms. In it, David uses his experience as a shepherd to describe the many ways God shows his love for us. Every line conveys David’s confidence in God’s goodness now and in the life to come. Why do you think this psalm has such an impact on people? What line of this psalm resonates with you the most and why? Have you come to know God as Jehovah-Rohi? We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Jireh: The Lord Who Provides

September 4, 2022 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Genesis 22:11–14

Our ancestors in faith assigned new names to God as they encountered new challenges. Each name provided an opportunity for God to reveal Godself in a new way. God did not change, but their understanding of God grew, changed, and evolved. In the same way, God longs for us to grow in our understanding of who God is, what God requires and what God provides. One way to get to know God better is to “drop a name.” Learning the names of God expands our perspective of who God is. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Jehovah: Balking at the Bush

August 14, 2022 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Exodus 3:7–15

Moses’ parents saved his life when his mother placed him in the reeds by the river hoping that someone would find him and protect from Pharoah’s order to kill all the Hebrew baby boys. Moses was discovered, protected, and nurtured by Pharaoh’s daughter. Raised as royalty, he stepped in to stop an injustice against one of the Hebrews, and the altercation resulted in a murder. Fleeing from the scene, he left Egypt for Midian where he met his wife and had a son. One ordinary day, he sees an extraordinary sight which becomes the platform for his life assignment. However, when God gives him his orders—he balks. What about us? How do/will we respond? We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Elohim: Something Out Of Nothing

August 7, 2022 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Genesis 1:1

The sacred scriptures declare the God of creation and the name used to demonstrate God’s creative capacity is Elohim. Elohim is a plural noun designed to direct us to God’s perfect harmony, balance, and relationship with Godself. Elohim signifies one triune God, not many gods. Elohim, the strong Creator is a personal and loving God who demands justice; yet extends grace. Elohim has all power (omnipotent), even the power to create something out of nothing. Put Some Respect On That Name

July 31, 2022 • Dr. Lance D. Watson • Exodus 3:13–14

NAME-DROPPING—is the practice of casually mentioning the names of famous people you know or claim to know in order to impress others or raise your own status through association. As people of faith, we should be namedroppers—dropping the name not of celebrities, but of our Creator. God elevates our status and God has an impressive resume. Isn’t it time for you to drop a name?
