Moses’ parents saved his life when his mother placed him in the reeds by the river hoping that someone would find him and protect from Pharoah’s order to kill all the Hebrew baby boys. Moses was discovered, protected, and nurtured by Pharaoh’s daughter. Raised as royalty, he stepped in to stop an injustice against one of the Hebrews, and the altercation resulted in a murder. Fleeing from the scene, he left Egypt for Midian where he met his wife and had a son. One ordinary day, he sees an extraordinary sight which becomes the platform for his life assignment. However, when God gives him his orders—he balks. What about us? How do/will we respond?

In Exodus 15, God led the Hebrew people three days journey beyond the Red Sea into the wilderness. They were distressed because they found no water. They came to a place called Marah where they did find water, but the water was bitter; it was salty or brackish. Here the Hebrews learned significant spiritual lessons which apply to us as well. Traveling through the desert, they faced the question, “How are we to survive? How will we live?” It’s a question of faith for them and for us. The problem was in how they responded. They responded with grumbling, rather than gratitude. Yet God is grace used the moment to reveal that God is a healer, in any and every situation. We are Saint Paul’s Everywhere! Our ancestors in faith assigned new names to God as they encountered new challenges. Each name provided an opportunity for God to reveal Godself in a new way. God did not change, but their understanding of God grew, changed, and evolved. In the same way, God longs for us to grow in our understanding of who God is, what God requires and what God provides.
