Today's study includes verses that are sandwiched between “putting off the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts and to put on the new man which was created according to God” and grieving Holy Spirit. Therefore, you can surmise that these verses are important indicators to evaluating what you believe about yourself so you can present Christ in His fullness without reservation.
Along with the entire six chapters of Ephesians, Paul is proving over and over that we must fully appropriate Christ if we want to live a prosperous, productive and peaceful life. Trying to accomplish the former apart from the gift of Christ is futile and short-lived. Paul is masterfully laying it all out for us to see how to live a victorious life in Christ rather than a victimized identity in self.
