Heart of Loving Others

Kings and Kingdoms

In this message we continue looking at the life of David focusing on his treatment towards others. When we left off last week we discussed how David was treated harshly by king Saul and as a result was left with a choice to either respect what God had instituted or seek revenge. We saw that not only did David not seek revenge but treated his enemy with honor and love. David’s treatment towards Saul really does not make sense to the outside person. The reality of his actions were motivated by a heart that was postured after the Lord. We see this trend continue in other parts of David's life for example how he accepted all the misfits that no one wanted as his ragtag group of warriors while he was on the run (1 Samuel 22). No one wanted these guys yet David extended a loving hand of acceptance to them. When David’s best friend Johnathon (Saul’s son) dies, David honors his vow to his friend by taking care of the remaining members of his family. That takes us to this guy named Mephibosheth who was Jonathons Son and was left crippled and dishonored to his family name. David grant's Mephibosheth a seat at his table and clothed him in royalty. Using these stories in David’s life, our focus this week is recognizing that a heart after the Lord loves others.
