Beyond The Cover

Larry McDonald’s Legacy

August 24, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Christian Gomez

Larry McDonald was the best Congressman in the United States during his tenure in Congress during the 1970s and 80s, according to the “Conservative Index,” the precursor to The New American’s Freedom Index, our congressional scorecard based on the U.S. Constitution. He was also chairman of The John Birch Society, when the passenger airliner he was on was downed by at least one Soviet missile on September 1, 1983. In this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews John Birch Society project manager Christian Gomez, who wrote an article commemorating Larry McDonald entitled “Larry’s Legacy,” and who has great admiration for him.

The Second Amendment at Work

August 17, 2023 • Gary Benoit

Most mass shootings in the United States take place in the workplace. But what makes the workplace a target of choice for would-be killers? And what can be done to make the workplace safer? In this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews Drew Dorans about this question. Drew is the HR Director for both The John Birch Society and its affiliate The New American at our headquarters in Appleton, Wisconsin. The HQ buildings have small signs on the doors saying, “Criminals beware! Concealed carry permit holders welcome here.” So you know where we stand. And of course, we firmly believe that our pro-Second Amendment stance makes our workplace far safer than those who foolishly declare that their businesses are “gun-free zones.” Drew wrote the article “The Second Amendment at Work” in the August 28 issue of The New American.   To read “The Second Amendment at Work” by Drew Dorans, visit https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2fthenewamerican.com%2fprint%2fthe-second-amendment-at-work%2f&data=05%7c01%7cbmueller%40thenewamerican.com%7c83a8fe02eabe40a4d12108db9f6a1597%7c4e853fd1cff34ed5a9b82e00cc49919c%7c0%7c0%7c638279050215423011%7cunknown%7ctwfpbgzsb3d8eyjwijoimc4wljawmdailcjqijoiv2lumziilcjbtii6ik1hawwilcjxvci6mn0%3d%7c3000%7c%7c%7c&sdata=ic4sp8bh4e01nxqbq2pgbwehildwwgc4swis0wfyl70%3d&reserved=0   To subscribe to The New American, visit http://thenewamerican.com/subscribe/

Is It Too Late for America?

August 10, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Steve Bonta

Social unrest, government corruption, economic and financial instability, nuclear weapons, moral depravity — is it too late to save America from destruction? Many Americans, including newly many awakened Americans, undoubtedly think that it is. But The New American and its parent organization The John Birch Society strongly disagree. In fact, we are very hopeful for the future — though admittedly saving America from falling into the abyss of despotism will require not only the great awakening but also the active participation of the awakened in the freedom movement. In this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews executive senior editor Steve Bonta about why we are so hopeful for the future. Steve is the author of the cover story “Is It Too Late for America?” in the August 28 print edition of The New American magazine.

On the Frontlines in the War on Farmers

August 4, 2023

The New American recently published an article about a fourth-generation farmer in South Dakota who is battling the carbon-capture land grab. But this is just the tip of a very large iceberg. Farmers’ property rights, and even their livelihoods, are being threatened throughout the Midwest and elsewhere. In this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews senior editor Rebecca Terrell about the war on farmers. Rebecca is the author of “Fourth-generation Farmer Battles Carbon-capture Land Grab,” about South Dakota farmer Jared Bossly, in the August 14 issue of The New American. She has also written other articles about the war on farmers. And she has interviewed many farmers and ranchers whose property rights and livelihoods are being threatened. Recently she attended a rally defending farmers’ property rights in Ft. Dodge, Iowa.

Do You Know How Your Congressmen Vote?

July 28, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Peter Rykowski, Christian Gomez

Do you know how your U.S. representative and senators vote on key issues affecting your lives and our nation? Do you know how their votes square with the Constitution, which every congressman takes an oath to uphold? Twice a year The New American publishes a congressional scorecard based on the Constitution. We call it the “Freedom Index,” and we just published the first index for the new Congress in the August 14 issue of The New American. In this episode of “Beyond the Cover,” host Gary Benoit discusses the Freedom Index with two members of The John Birch Society’s research/legislative team that puts the index together, Christian Gomez and Peter Rykowski. In the discussion, they not only describe the index and related tools but also how to use them to create the awareness that’s needed to improve Congress.

Blackrock: Masters of the Universe

July 20, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Alex Newman

The financial monolith known as BlackRock has an estimated $10 trillion under management. It’s using its clout to change the world, but not for the better. In this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews senior editor Alex Newman, who wrote the cover story “BlackRock: Masters of the Universe” for the July 31 issue of The New American. The interview begins with a discussion about whether the magazine’s cover graphic for that article — a globe-straddling vampire squid — will strike some readers as over-the-top conspiracy theory. Alex points out that that depends on how informed people are, and he then proceeds to provide some of the evidence. You’ll not want to miss this interview!   To read “BlackRock: Masters of the Universe” by Alex Newman, visit https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2fthenewamerican.com%2fprint%2fblackrock-masters-of-the-universe%2f&data=05%7c01%7cbmueller%40thenewamerican.com%7c204ee9f92b9441f022af08db89556f75%7c4e853fd1cff34ed5a9b82e00cc49919c%7c0%7c0%7c638254772274221951%7cunknown%7ctwfpbgzsb3d8eyjwijoimc4wljawmdailcjqijoiv2lumziilcjbtii6ik1hawwilcjxvci6mn0%3d%7c3000%7c%7c%7c&sdata=p80lkiexeqy5g2cbnyomtq%2b2u%2blgixxbj48jqp3tlw8%3d&reserved=0   To subscribe to The New American, visit http://thenewamerican.com/subscribe/

Why Is “Sound of Freedom” Being Attacked?

July 13, 2023 • Gary Benoit

Sound of Freedom starring Jim Caviezel has exceeded all expectations at the box office, rivaling blockbuster summer releases such as Indiana Jones. Its box office success was achieved despite the fact that it was released independently, outside the normal Hollywood distribution channels. Audience reaction to the movie has been highly favorable, even though it is about a dark subject: the global child sex industry. Yet the movie is being trashed in establishment circles. Which begs the question: Why? To shed light on this question, Beyond the Cover host Gary Benoit interviews senior editor William F. Jasper, who wrote the article “Fastest-growing Criminal Enterprise” in the July 31, 2023 issue of The New American. Bill says that the global nightmare of child sex trafficking has become a giant industry because rich and powerful people protect, promote, aid, and abet it.   To read “Fastest-growing Criminal Enterprise” by William F. Taking Action Through The John Birch Society

July 6, 2023 • Gary Benoit

Creating an informed citizenry is vital, if we are to save our freedoms and our Republic. But it is not, by itself, sufficient. If freedom is to survive and flourish, it is also imperative that enough Americans become actively involved in the freedom movement — and not just involved, but also organized, so they can magnify their efforts through concerted action. There is one column in every print edition of The New American that is dedicated to making this point. It is called “Taking Action.” And in this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews John Birch Society CEO Bill Hahn, the writer of the column, about taking action.   To subscribe to The New American, visit http://thenewamerican.com/subscribe

TNAtv: Bringing You the Truth Behind the News

June 29, 2023 • Gary Benoit

Normally on Beyond the Cover we discuss important stories we publish in The New Americanmagazine’s print edition. But The New American is much more than a print magazine. It is also a multi-media outlet that includes the daily online publication of articles, videos, and podcasts. And it even includes a one-hour daily TV show, our topic for today. In this episode of Beyond the Cover, Gary Benoit interviews The New American TV host Paul Dragu about the show, whose motto is “The Truth Behind the News.” Paul discusses how the show is delivering on this commitment and how step-by-step the show’s outreach is growing. Hunter’s Plea Deal: Keeping Bigger Crimes Hidden

June 22, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Steve Bonta

Hunter Biden’s deal to plead guilty to tax and gun violations deflects public attention from far more serious transgressions. Those transgressions include pay-for-play dealings with foreign entities. And the players include not only Hunter but other members of the Biden crime family including the “big guy” — President Joe Biden. In this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews executive senior editor Steve Bonta, who discusses these dealings and more — including the fact that corrupt politicians have employed this strategy in the past to keep their biggest crimes mostly hidden from public view. Eerily similar to what is happening today, Steve obverses, is how the impeachment of President Bill Clinton in the 1990s for lying about sex was used to deflect attention from the far more serious crime of Chinagate, which entailed the compromise of U.S. security in exchange for Chinese cash. Of course, the Bidens’ own influence peddling could also entail the compromise of U.S. security.    To subscribe to The New American, visit https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2fthenewamerican.com%2fsubscribe&data=05%7c01%7ckcoronado%40thenewamerican.com%7c7247d2e21eb74854800608db735e703b%7c4e853fd1cff34ed5a9b82e00cc49919c%7c0%7c0%7c638230621678900746%7cunknown%7ctwfpbgzsb3d8eyjwijoimc4wljawmdailcjqijoiv2lumziilcjbtii6ik1hawwilcjxvci6mn0%3d%7c3000%7c%7c%7c&sdata=bshw7bpslbjz4%2fgeesbz9bcm4w5t3diuqsujbxkg%2few%3d&reserved=0

Durham Report Reveals the Real Collusion | Beyond the Cover

June 8, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Cort Kirkwood

The establishment opinion cartel has claimed again and again that Donald Trump colluded with Russia. However, even though this turned out to be a false narrative, there was Russian collusion. But the collusion was with Hillary Clinton, not Donald Trump. In this episode of Beyond the Cover, investigative journalist R. Cort Kirkwood discusses the real collusion. Kirkwood wrote the cover story "Durham Report Reveals the Real Collusion" in the June 26 issue of The New American magazine.

AI Artwork: A Closer Look/ Beyond the Cover

June 1, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Joe Kelly

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. But how about pictures created by AI? Will AI images become commonplace? Will they prove to be worth more than a thousand words, figuratively speaking? Will they accurately capture the world in which we live? And to what extent might the AI technology be used for nefarious purposes to create a new, false reality? Regarding the latter question, what can be done to avoid, or expose, the deception? In this episode of Beyond the Cover, host Gary Benoit interviews The New American’s creative director, Joseph Kelly, about the use of AI to create imagery. During the discussion, Joe explains the advantages of using AI to create imagery, as well as the pitfalls. For some of his examples of AI imagery, he uses the cover of The New American’s Special Report on “The Future of Tech,” as well as other imagery in the “AI Artwork” article in that report. And he takes us through the process of creating imagery using AI.   To subscribe to The New American, visit https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2fthenewamerican.com%2fsubscribe&data=05%7c01%7cbmueller%40thenewamerican.com%7c0440b79e63b2405059b208db62d7e3ae%7c4e853fd1cff34ed5a9b82e00cc49919c%7c0%7c0%7c638212451611259018%7cunknown%7ctwfpbgzsb3d8eyjwijoimc4wljawmdailcjqijoiv2lumziilcjbtii6ik1hawwilcjxvci6mn0%3d%7c3000%7c%7c%7c&sdata=vtsahrr%2bffi9xixywdi0vk0jxn4qfxydon%2bteaghuxy%3d&reserved=0    To get The New American’s Special Report on “The Future of Tech,” visit https://shopjbs.org/product/tna3911/

The Future of Tech | Beyond the Cover

May 25, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Dennis Behreandt, Steve Bonta

The New American magazine has just produced a special report about the future of technology, including AI. What will that future look like? Will it be a dystopian nightmare or something far more positive, where technological progress continues to enrich and bless our lives? In this episode of Beyond the Cover , three of the contributors to TNA’s “Future of Tech” Special Report — chemical engineer Jeff Lindsay, TNA publisher Dennis Behreandt, and TNA executive senior editor Steve Bonta — joined host Gary Benoit for a lively discussion that shed much-needed light on these questions and more. Among the points made are that technology is a double-edged sword that can be used for good or bad, and that all of us can help shape the future for better or for worse by what we do or do not do today.   To subscribe to The New American, visit https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2fthenewamerican.com%2fsubscribe&data=05%7c01%7ckcoronado%40thenewamerican.com%7c6a9d44cb128442ea3f4108db5d5f8bcf%7c4e853fd1cff34ed5a9b82e00cc49919c%7c0%7c0%7c638206437191547027%7cunknown%7ctwfpbgzsb3d8eyjwijoimc4wljawmdailcjqijoiv2lumziilcjbtii6ik1hawwilcjxvci6mn0%3d%7c3000%7c%7c%7c&sdata=q1bxlab5svouiy9qgpigvpkzkiugm78cgedtlymh2am%3d&reserved=0   To order TNA’s “Future of Tech” Special Report, visit https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2fshopjbs.org%2fproduct%2ftna3911%2f&data=05%7c01%7ckcoronado%40thenewamerican.com%7c6a9d44cb128442ea3f4108db5d5f8bcf%7c4e853fd1cff34ed5a9b82e00cc49919c%7c0%7c0%7c638206437191703295%7cunknown%7ctwfpbgzsb3d8eyjwijoimc4wljawmdailcjqijoiv2lumziilcjbtii6ik1hawwilcjxvci6mn0%3d%7c3000%7c%7c%7c&sdata=zvrnrccbvskh4nbhkijxioq%2b3p3rx9a9v6wszvonhvo%3d&reserved=0

The John Birch Society Is Still Winning Big | Beyond the Cover

Gary Benoit, Paul Dragu

The John Birch Society, for decades largely ignored by the major media, has been garnering more publicity lately about how the seeds it has planted over many years in the minds and hearts of the American people are still winning victories today. The media, for example, has credited the JBS for MAGA. However, for the most part the same media reports fail to credit the JBS as being a vibrant, viable, force on the American political landscape today, preferring instead to say that it is JBS ideas that are still winning, while imagining that the organization itself is a past phenomenon. In truth, even though the media does not want to acknowledge it, the JBS is alive and well — and growing. In this Beyond the Cover Interview, JBS Communications Director Paul Dragu discusses both the media characterizations and the organization itself, including what JBS members are doing all across the country.   Paul Dragu is the author of “The John Birch Society Is Still Winning Big” in the May 29, 2023 issue of The New American. Deep State Intelligence Apparatus Targets America | Beyond the Cover

May 11, 2023 • Gary Benoit, Bill Jasper

The Intelligence Community is supposed to protect the American people. But although the U.S. government needs intelligence to safeguard our liberties, the CIA, FBI, and other intelligence agencies have become increasingly weaponized against the American people. In a wide-ranging interview that includes a recent claim made by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. regarding Lee Harvey Oswald and the assassination of his uncle, senior editor William F. Jasper discusses how out of control the intelligence community is. He also says what needs to be done. Jasper is the author of “Intel’s Real Target: America” and two related articles in the May 29 issue of The New American.   To subscribe to The New American, visit http://thenewamerican.com/subscribe   To read “Intel’s Real Target: America” by William F.
