In the series Reframing Rest, we’ve learned that the Sabbath is a rhythm, rooted in creation. A reminder of how God rescued us from our slavery to sin, and a gift that God gives us every single week to enjoy for our good.
We learned that we stop on the Sabbath to reveal our trust in God, refuel us for the work of God, and refocus us on what we have in God. That He is enough, and I don't have to spin my life in circles for God to keep the world spinning and in control. And we learned that on the Sabbath, we should do whatever is restful and restorative, whatever causes us delight, and whatever leads us to worship God.
We've provided for you a list of some best practices, and even had a panel of people from The Harbor - in different stages of life - sharing how they are seeking to practice the Sabbath in their own life.
Now we end our series by trying to answer the question, "What does Jesus think about the Sabbath?" What this short message by Pastor Jeff Maness to see!
This Is How We Do It - 11AM Panel Discussion
November 24, 2024 • Jeff Maness, Ferrin Gillespie, Justin Ruszkiewicz
Throughout this series, we've talked about the benefits and difficulties of observing a weekly Sabbath. We've talked about things we should do on that day and things we should stop for that day. And we've gone over what Scripture has to say about it. This fourth message is a two-part panel discussion with people in different stages of life taking questions from the audience on how they Sabbath. In these two videos, there are questions about Sabbathing in different living situations, like when you have small children and when your spouse doesn't Sabbath with you. The panelists also talk about things like: Can you watch sports on the Sabbath? Can you go to a restaurant? Do you cook on the Sabbath? What about naps? Can you partake in hobbies you enjoy?
This is part two, recorded at the 11:00 AM service. You can also click the link to watch part one of "This Is How We Do It - A Sabbath Panel Discussion" which was recorded at the 9:00 AM service. Some of the discussion will be similar, but the audience had different questions for our panel which included Pastor Jeff and Sabrina Maness, Ferrin Gillespie, Justin and Mackinzie Ruszkiewicz.

A Sabbath Framework
November 17, 2024 • Jeff Maness • Mark 2:27, Matthew 11:28—12:14, Isaiah 58:13–14, Mark 3:4
Sabbath is not an obligation—it is an invitation. An opportunity to receive a gift from God every single week. Yes, it is in the law of God as the fourth of the Ten Commandments, but Sabbath is not just law—it is life. It is a blessing, not a burden.
So how do we do this Sabbath practice? There is no formula to make the Sabbath work for you, but there is a framework that leads to success. Watch this message to learn how to make your Sabbath day a day you will look forward to each week!
Stop, In the Name of Rest
November 10, 2024 • Jeff Maness • Exodus 16, Exodus 34:21
While there is an abundance of historical, psychological, physical, and even scientific and medical evidence of the benefits of taking one day off each week to completely rest, the vast majority of people—especially in our modern Western world—fight against this rhythm that God rooted into creation.
We're like three-year-olds fighting a nap—knowing we're exhausted but refusing to accept God's pathway to rest. Maybe one of the biggest reasons we fight against it—especially as followers of Jesus—is that we don't truly understand the "why" behind Sabbath rest. And that's what we will reframe in this message, week two of our series, Reframing Rest.
The Unwanted Gift

- 60% of U.S. adults say they feel more tired now than they’ve ever been. --- OnePoll Research Firm
- 58% of people said that feeling tired keeps them from enjoying life, and 33% of people "always" or "often" still feel tired even after a good night's sleep. --- Talker Research Firm
Why is this happening? Why do we wear busyness as a badge of honor - yet constantly talk about how much we need a break - and how tired we are – even though it’s keeping us from enjoying life? And when we do get a break - a vacation, an extended weekend, or just a good night’s sleep – we’re not receiving the rest we truly need to be filled back up. We’re not living in the rhythm of rest that God intended.
Could it be that we need to reframe rest? That maybe there is a rest God wants us to have and to live in that we are missing out on in our busy, hurried, fast-paced, and tired lives? In this message, Pastor Jeff Maness explains that the Sabbath is more than a specific day you must observe, it is a way of life you get to practice, a gift from God.
