When it comes to the different ways we connect with God, all of us probably have some baggage. We think we might be doing it wrong, or we’re only doing it because we think we have to. We get so in our head about how our prayer and worship looks or sounds that we miss out on the actual connection piece. We forget that the goal is to connect with God. But what if instead of focusing so much on all of our anxiety and worry about connecting with God the “right” way—however we define that—we realized what God actually wants is nothing from us, but relationship with us? When we understand how God actually feels about us, we move from preoccupation with our own actions and thoughts, and move to actual worship— loving God for who He is.
DINNER WITH JESUS - Week 5
June 30, 2024 • Trevor Harrison • Luke 24:13–35
We all know what it’s like to hit bumps in our life. We all know what it’s like to experience circumstances that feel so bad and so overwhelming we aren’t quite sure we’ll ever find a way out. And if we do? It feels like things will never be as good as they were before. One of the best things about the Bible is that it includes all kind of experiences from people who—though they lived thousands of years ago—have relatable emotions, disappointments, frustrations, and resulting despair. The thing we find in these stories over and over again, especially this week as we look at two disciples on their way to Emmaus after the crucifixion of Jesus, is when we need it most, Jesus does not leave us alone in our despair. He shows up. He works in ways we may not recognize at first. And in the moment when our disillusionment nearly blinds us to the good, our eyes are opened to see Jesus was there the whole time.
