Because prayer is one of the most common words used in church, it’s not hard for us to form an idea about what it actually is: an opportunity to ask for things, a time to worship, a place to go with our doubts, a feeling that you’re talking and know He is listening—we might see prayer as all of those things at times. But while we may say prayer is a number of different things, what we probably wouldn’t say is that it feels like an open door to God all the time. We wouldn’t say God has an open-door policy when it comes to prayer. It doesn’t always feel like we can go to Him easily or find Him quickly when we’re in need. But whether we realize it or not, God leaves the door wide open for us all the time. He gives us full access to Himself through prayer, anytime and anywhere. And He wants us to walk through it, making prayer a very real part of a real relationship with a real, living God. As we’ll see in this series, God has given us prayer as an open door to Him. All we have to do is walk through it!
