Knowing God in Difficult times

August 12, 2018 • Dr. Danny Lovett

We'll begin our new series on Knowing the God We Love. Have you ever had a person come along and put his arm around you and say, “Cheer up, things could get worst.” That’s a lot of comfort! One fellow said, “I cheered up and sure enough, things got worst!” These are the things people say when they don’t understand who God is. But there are times when you, as a child of God, will find yourself in difficulty, darkness, discouragement or defeat. Furthermore, you won’t understand why. Things won’t make any sense whatsoever. There will seem to be no rhyme, no reason, no explanation for your trouble. Everything will just seem to go wrong. Then what do you do? This Sunday we will see what Joseph did when every thing when wrong for him. Don’t miss this exciting truth on Knowing God Through Difficult Times.

Knowing the God of Comfort

Even though, we're God’s children, we still have problems. Second Timothy 2:3 says for us to "endure hardness as good soldiers of Jesus Christ." If you lose your job, if you lose your health, if the forces of evil seem to be attacking you, if the economy is not working in your favor, and you're not happy with the election results, or if your friends turn away and everything is going wrong, you may want to just be disappointed in God. You may want to resent the Lord. I may have doubts and questions about what God's doing. I may not like how he's running the world, but... I must continue to do one thing. I must continue to rejoice in the Lord. He is our strength, He is our rock, He is our salvation (Psalm.27:1). This Sunday, the title of the message is Knowing the God of Comfort. We will take a look at how we can have comfort in uncomfortable times.

Knowing the God who is our Judge and Father

Far too often when people discuss God, they ignore His justice and judgement and only emphasize His love. This is dangerous, for God’s nature is both loving and just. In fact, God’s justice and judgement are based on His love. It is God’s love for all who truly believe in and trust Him that arouses His righteous judgement to strike out against those who mistreat His followers. Furthermore, God requires that His holy name be honored. It's so important that this is included as one of the Ten Commandments. God will execute vengeance on all who reject, neglect, and curse His Holy Name. This Sunday's message is Knowing The God Who is Our Judge and Father.
