Today in worship we begin a two-week sermon series on the sacraments called “Ordinary Things, Extraordinary Grace.” Over the next two weeks, we will do an in-depth dive into our United Methodist theology of the sacraments, and what they mean for our ordinary lives. Through simple elements, like water, bread, and juice, God meets us, redeems us, and continues to sanctify us. Today, we will explore Matthew 26:26-30 and hear Jesus’s words to the disciples at the Last Supper. As Jesus institutes the sacrament of communion, we are invited into a worldwide practice of redemption and love. Today, we celebrate World Communion Sunday and remember that we are joined together with brothers and sisters in Christ in the sacrament of communion.
